I am Questing, Quintessential, and Quixotic.
My Self-Summary
Je suis le Roi du Monde. Qui êtes-vous?
Ok, we gotta cut this down. I keep going over my intro, and it just
looks weedier and weedier. Time to trim the shrubbery.
First off, my favourite thing is to go where I have never gone. So
I'm living in
China
now. I don't know for how long, or what I'll end up doing in the
end, or where I'll be or if I'm ever coming home. I used to have a
game plan, I used to have this grand scheme for coming out on top
of life with all the right pegs in the right holes, and a mountain
of triumphs behind me, a girl by my side, and our hair blowing in
the wind before a dazzling sunset.
I've taken the high road and broken some bones along the way, and
to my very great surprise those clean white trousers I began with
aren't so clean anymore. I've had some insight into myself and the
world, and that fantasy really doesn't seem like something I want
to be a part of. I'm certainly a
cynic; if you can live in China and not be
cynical, you belong there. But the world really is
amazing,
and I guess this bitterness is a result of the tidal waves of
nonsensical bullshit everyone just loves to play in. I'm so tired
of running into these maudlin critics who despair at every
turn.
But, of course, I'm living in China, and it's pretty absurd up in
here. If you've ever wondered what it'd be like if tyrannical four
year olds ran the country, I invite you to visit. Every single day
here is an intoxicating mixture of disappointment, frustration, and
insurmountable obstacles that simply dazzle the mind. It's really
quite stupefying.
I think I finally get that "rolling stone" metaphor, and after
about a year somewhere I feel it again, time to pick up and see
something new. Security's nice and a relationship would be great,
but I don't think I can stand still long enough for that. I'm just
not cut out for a 9-5 and a quaint little house somewhere. At
least, not yet.
But, if you want to see the world too, then you've met your match.
I'd love to meet someone who feels this way too. I realise the
possibilities of that are slim, but hey, gotta take my chances.
There's more to see than the block you're living on. I know I'm
happiest doing something crazy and new, and just letting life
settle around you isn't enough. Think about the best stories you
have so far--they're the ridiculous ones, right? The ones where you
did something absurd and probably stupid? No one wants to hear
about how you were responsible and did the right thing. That's
gotta be worth something, I figure. There's someone out there, I
know there is, who agrees with me. I just haven't met her yet.
Ne te quaesiveris extra.
I had a talk with a friend recently, and came to the conclusion
that I'm not actually pursuing happiness. I mean, if you want to do
that with your life, that's grand, but how do you chase something
like happiness? I don't think happiness is an end unto itself, but
rather a result of the conditions you establish for yourself, a
symptom of your life choices. If you know yourself, if you aren't
afraid of taking the chances that seem natural to you but unnatural
to everyone else, then you'll wind up doing things that make you
happy. And that's what I think it's all about.
Doing what
makes you happy; which, if you're honest enough with yourself,
really amounts to nothing more than just living your life. If you
live
your life, you'll be happy. And so that's what I'm
doing here I guess. I can't imagine not being here. It isn't that
this place is so great, because honestly it's not. But everyday is
something new and different, and who knows where I'll go from here.
The door's wide open. Hell, there are no doors.
And as far as OKC goes? Honestly, I'm quite fascinated thinking
about the kind of person who'll message me after reading this
introduction.
What I’m doing with my life
Going to China, brb.
(clicky)
Trying to figure out Adobe CS4. Good lord.
I’m really good at
I do a pretty wicked Jim Carrey impression, and my Connery's not
too bad either!
Also, languages! Languages enthrall me, and it doesn't matter
which. I'm trying to learn Mandarin, picked up some German
at Uni, and know enough basic French, Spanish, and Latin to make
sense of most words. If you have an accent, I'll probably try to
guess where you're from. ^_^
Making little emoticons and speaking the King's own.
Colourful! n_n
The first things people usually notice about me
My sense of humour isn't what you'd call normal. XD
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Hokay, so we all know no one ever reads these. That's ok. In fact,
that's good. Because my knowledge of music is like my secret
treasure, and I horde it greedily. So, if you skip this part,
you'll be missing my little treasure trove, and in some ethereal,
metaphysical kind of way, there'll be more for me. But, it's not
worth as much if you don't risk it, right?
So, here goes.
Ocean Colour Scene, Coldplay, Eisley, Jenny Dalton, Airborne Toxic
Event, Iron and Wine, Kate Nash, Mat Kearney, The Shins, Rachael
Yamagata, Steve Roach, Robert Rich, Conjure One, Amethsytium, and
Delerium.
bonus points will be awarded if you've heard any of the last five.
The six things I could never do without
Scotland, books, animals, the forest, imagination, my
camera.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Duck cocks! They're orange, you know.
On a typical Friday night I am
Mucking about, knee deep in a soiree.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
English will always be my first love, I have a manatee plushy named
Manfred, and my left big toe is the exact same size as Charles de
Gaulle. Not the man, his toe.
Also, one of the above might not be true. o_o'
You should message me if
You don't care that I'm in China! ;)
You're a kid at heart! You like animated films and cartoons. You
relish simplicity and know that the best things in life are free,
but getting to climb that berg in Die Schweiz still ain't
cheap.
You've got an imagination to keep up with mine XD You're active and
love the outdoors, you ride horses (or sky bison), you know who you
are and you're comfortable with that! You have interesting tattoos
or piercings. Or you ride a motorcycle!
Or you think you know a word I don't >.< But no inchoate
dross!
I'm not necessarily looking for love or anything like it, but it's
great to meet people and have adventures. I discovered I'm not a
fan of dating, it's too formal to get to know who someone is. But
if you'd like to go climbing or hiking or skydiving or yodeling,
you can bet your stars and garters I'd love to go.
PS - I don't respond to winks. '_'
