I am Questing, Quintessential, and Quixotic.

My Self-Summary

Je suis le Roi du Monde. Qui êtes-vous?

My favourite thing is to go where I have never gone.

First off, I'm going to be living and teaching in China for the next year with my friend Basilcromwell. I just moved here in October and with any luck, I won't be back for a while. The world is upside down here! I'm still figuring out how to walk on my hands ^_^ After my stint here, I'm looking forward to backpacking my way around the east til money or my feet can't carry me any further, peradventure with some great stories. So if that caveat doesn't deter you, then by all means, keep reading.

So, straight to the point, I'm a humble egoist, a philosopher and confirmed hermit with a secret, extroverted identity (don't tell). I'm happiest doing something crazy, something I know I'll remember and probably be proud of--in a stupid, "I can't believe I did that!" sort of way ^_^ When I look back at the places I've been, it's these misadventures that make me laugh the most. That's got to be worth something, so I figure it's a good policy to pursue the absurd. Talk to the barista at starbucks with an Australian accent, climb the Hofburg Palace, sneak into Pompeii and watch the sunset. Or get arrested by Chinese police! They say you'll regret the things you didn't do, so why not?

I just graduated from CU Boulder with a degree in English, and I'm living in China this year, hoping to bestow my learnings on eager minds. Sacre bleu! It occurs to me as ironic that I've gone to China for a job. *_*

I've travelled to a few countries, with a few more on the list, lived in England, and want to move back. I've got a bug for the outdoors that just can't be sated. Seriously, it's like a beetle or something, I don't even know. Voracious! I'll probably end up in a cabin on a lake a hundred miles from anyone else. Except for, you know, that special someone.

I like being social, but I'm often in my head too much and the bright lights frighten me! I take refuge in solitude, not so many voices. But I'm trying to find my footing, it's a brave new world!

I'm a romantic at heart, which amounts to a pretty lonely breed in this modernised world of ours. What happened to the Greta Garbos and Cary Grants? These days "love" just seems more like a convenient tryst, riding the knife's edge of prophylactics and middle class career ambitions.

I'd like to meet someone whom I can trust, someone whom I can dote on—and who will reciprocate—and really someone who's a little wary of contemporary idealism and the prospect of 'upward mobility'—essentially a snazzy way of saying you're stuck standing in the same place with fancier shoes every day. The 'Greatest Generation' got married at 16, had four kids, and is still married seventy years later. What does our generation have? X-Box's, iPhones, and an alarming degree of sensitivity to everything remotely genuine. Almost like an allergy, or something. I'm heading West, not with a whimper, but with a bang.

What I’m doing with my life

I’m really good at

I do a pretty wicked Jim Carrey impression, and my Connery's not too bad either!

Also, languages! Languages enthrall me, and it doesn't matter which. I'm trying to learn Mandarin, picked up some German at Uni, and know enough basic French, Spanish, and Latin to make sense of most words. If you have an accent, I'll probably try to guess where you're from. ^_^

Making little emoticons and speaking the King's own. Colourful! n_n

The first things people usually notice about me

My sense of humour isn't what you'd call normal. XD

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Apparition, by Delerium.

The six things I could never do without

Living without these six things would severely diminish the richness of my existence:
Scotland, books, animals, the forest, imagination, my camera.

And six things I could happily do without:

Mind games: when you start second guessing, so do other people, and where does that get you?

Political correctness: is there really any point in not saying what you're actually thinking? You know everyone else is thinking it too.

Urban culture: living in a city detaches you from the earth and what's inherent to the soul. When you lose touch with reality, you create your own problems, and then emo kids are born.

The media: this includes tv and newspapers, and basically stems from the three categories above: mind games, political correctness and urban culture. Isn't there something better to do than worry about what's on the tele?

Bicyclists! Funny how they don't have to share the road.

Hippies! I really wish the people who think smoking pot is an expression of free speech could talk to the boys who stormed Normandy.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Duck cocks! They're orange, you know.

On a typical Friday night I am

Knee deep in a soiree.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

English will always be my first love.

You should message me if

You don't care that I'm in China! ;)

You're a kid at heart! You like animated films and cartoons. You relish simplicity and know that the best things in life are free, but getting to climb that berg in Die Schweiz still ain't cheap. You've got an imagination to keep up with mine XD You're active and love the outdoors, you ride horses (or sky bison), you know who you are and you're comfortable with that!

Or you think you know a word I don't >.< But no inchoate dross!

You know. Either way.

I'm not necessarily looking for love or anything like it, but it's great to meet people and have adventures. I discovered I'm not a fan of dating, it's too formal to get to know who someone is. But if you'd like to go climbing or hiking or skydiving or yodeling, you can bet your stars and garters I'd love to go.

PS - I don't respond to winks. '_'
