I am learning, patient, and logical.

My Self-Summary

Hi. I'm in a committed, open relationship. I like movies and animals. And coffee. My name is Chris. I'm a big fan of biking and games of all shapes and colors. I'm very committed to friends and family. I keep thinking about intentional communities, becoming a zoologist or lawyer, the U.S's unique position of privilege and it's effects on its citizens, ankle socks, faith, Tom Waits, whiskey, pool, beer, coffee, etc.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm currently a private investigator. It involves Internet-based database research and due diligence reports, not nondescript vehicles, guns and flasks. Hopefully, I'll go back to graduate school in the next few years.

I’m really good at

Food. Coffee. Games. Frisbee. Minesweeper. Cuddling. Cats. Logic. Movies.

The first things people usually notice about me

I would be interested in having this question answered. On another note, I think it's sort of creepy that when you send someone a message on this thing, it suggests that you change your profile so that xx123whoever will like you better! As though there's no way they'd like you as is. Or like it's encouraging you to lie long enough to hook someone. Then again, maybe that's what makes dating people successful. Who really knows? Dr. Phil would probably tell you he did, but that guys a schmuck.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books - it's hard to even start this list. Some authors I've enjoyed in recent history include Michael Chabon, Italo Calvino, Sherman Alexie, Jhumpa Lahiri, Stephen King, Zadie Smith, Robert Frost, Robert Lowell, Seamus Heany, Czeslaw Milosz, and John Updike.

Movies - I find myself weirdly drawn to post-apocalyptic films. I love horror movies but don't like to watch them by myself (I spook easy). Campy films are fun as well.

Music - Tom Waits, Mos Def, Iron and Wine, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, Wilco, The Roots, Bob Dylan, Between the Buried and Me, the Lawrence Arms, Joanna Newsom, Bela Fleck, Flatt and Scruggs, Whiskey & Co.

Food - sandwiches of all kinds.

The six things I could never do without

Books, a core group of friends, pets, whiskey, [insert thing], [insert thing].

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The state of the world, and the philosophy that either underlies or undermines people and their activities. Girls. Taxes. Science. Music. Trivia. Sexism and racism, and all the various means in which privilege gets entangled in them. Affordable housing. Wage inequality. Personal growth.

On a typical Friday night I am

More and more recently, I've been staying home, rather than going to bars, but I think that's strongly weather-related. This winter, I started playing a lot of computer games, but I'm moving out of that for summer, I think.

You should message me if

You'd like a new friend, or someone to sleep with, or would like to start at either point and see whether the other comes along. You're honest. You're not high maintenance. You put work into your friendships, or are at least no-drama about letting go of them. You think you can beat me at any given game.
