Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Tired after fifteen years in the hipster trenches, I recently
fulfilled a long-term goal and now reside half the time in NYC and
the other half in Massachusetts near the VT border. I do have
friends in MA. They are mostly woodland creatures, but that’s fine
with me. I think it’s fine with them too, but they get a little
irritated when I hog the covers during sleepovers.
I am not a douchebag, as my friends reminded me repeatedly...until
Mom stopped paying the people that formerly cluttered up my social
calendar. Honestly, though, I think they'd still say I'm not.
When I am in New York I can be found at a jazz club or at one of
the bars I co-own in Brooklyn, if my business partner hasn't
changed the locks. I am otherwise self-employed in energy
efficiency and clean generation, arcane stuff I can hardly explain
and still wonder how I get paid for. Generally love what I do,
cause it's only what I want to do, but my boss can be a real
If you're looking for a partner in crime, you better be serious,
cause I have some big jobs planned. If you're as comfortable in
jeans as you are in a little black dress, we may have a problem
with my allergies to silk and linen. If you love to laugh and have
fun, that could be a deal killer -- my buddhism guru is trying to
keep me to a strict happy medium. If you try to take advantage of
all New York City has to offer, I want you to come to the party
with me on the 3 train when it parks in the East New York rail
yard, starts about 2 AM. And if you are really five years older
than your profile, that's great because I love to start my
relationships on a solid basis of dishonesty.
Yes, I'm doing a pisstake on the standard lines one generally finds
on here. Kidding aside, I'm not looking for someone to complete me
or to check a box. I am looking for a life partner with her own set
of interests and passions, and preferably one who wants kids,
although that will always take a backseat to a meaningful
relationship. I got no mommy or daddy issues, have done the work
necessary to know what I'm about. I have quit two jobs with nice
pay to live a sane, manageable lifestyle and do things that are
meaningful to me. If I find her and she digs it, I'll be delighted.
If I don't, then I don't. It's my intention to settle permanently
outside the City even if I have to go down occasionally for
projects. I need earth under my feet and woods to hike in. Not
saying I won't compromise -- all relationships are about compromise
-- but the best me ain't a city boy.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am a consultant in clean energy and efficiency, develop
efficiency and generation projects on my own, and help other firms
raise capital to do their developments. I own parts of small
businesses. I like to build stuff, but am not very good at it so
I'm always bashing myself with hammers and cutting myself with
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Favorite movie is A Room with a View, book is the Enormous Room
(however, recently in awe of Shadow Country and Angle of Repose),
TV show is the Wire. My musical taste is very eclectic and I
couldn't pick one thing. Half the time I listen to classical music,
then a lot of Leo Kottke-type folk, early REM era rock, big Meshell
Ndegeocello fan, international music, and Blitzen Trapper-ish indie
pop. My current food fascination is anything involving passion
fruit or green tomatillo sauce.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

I have a Ben & Jerry's problem

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You like unconventional -- settling down in the burbs is not your
life plan. You like to read and talk about what you read (or see,
or hear). "Thoughtful" and "engaging" are characteristics you look
for and that you offer.
Do not e-mail me if you have a picture with a fake mustache. It
really freaks me out.
