I should be reading more, but I would have to say the Cahiers du
Cinema, Hemingway, Twain, good screenplays, technics (philosophy of
technology). Being and Nothingness. Currently reading A Confederacy
Richard Linklater movies (The Before Trilogy is a guilty pleasure):
I love his films because they all have a time element involved.
Many of them take place in the span of 24 hours and are full of
philosophical and strange conversations. The plots are minimal and
the themes are strong. Linklater films are independent, so he
usually gets to make them his way.
Paul Thomas Anderson (The Master, Boogie Knights, Magnolia): I love
PTA films because the stories are original and they move with a
visceral energy similar to Scorsese films. They are beautiful to
watch and provide wonderful insights into characters. His films are
Jim Jarmusch (Stranger Than Paradise, Down By Law): One of the
masters of American independent cinema, Jarmusch has somehow kept
his vision throughout the years.
Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver): His movies
are just great.
Drugstore Cowboy: A road movie about pharmaceutical junkies.
Shows: Freaks and Geeks, Parks and Recreation.
Music: Earth, Muse, Stars, Crystal Castles, Pavement, The
Food: Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese, Ethiopian, Mexican. Burgers
and fries will do it for me. I'm good with most foods, but nothing
for too long of a time. I'm always up for trying new things.
