My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Down-to-earth, laid back, fun-loving, intelligent, compassionate, with a sense of humor that ranges from dry and witty, to downright silly. I love the little things in life, from the giggles and smile of a toddler, the smell of fresh cookies baking in the oven, the awesome colors of a summer sunset, to the sound of the driving rain during a thunderstorm. I‘m a decent cook, especially of comfort foods, and have a knack of adding a little subtle twist to make a dish uniquely mine. My girls (they’re 28 and 24) tell me I bake an unbelievable cinnamon-oatmeal-raisin cookie around the holidays. I think they taste as great as they sound!

I also am a lover of music and theater. I play an instrument (yes, I’m proud to say that I was and still am a band nerd) and enjoy attending events whenever time allows. Whether it is Broadway-style shows, rock concerts, the symphony, local theater, or marching band competitions, there’s not much music-wise that I don’t enjoy. Well, rap, but that doesn’t really count as music, at least not to me.

Those who know me say that I am very giving of my time, almost to a fault. I guess that’s a polite way of them telling me I have a hard time saying no. There’s probably a bit of truth to that. I have been volunteered for many things in the not too distant past. Chair a committee. Organize a fundraiser. I was even foreman of the last jury I served on. It’s very satisfying to me to be able to contribute, even in a small way, and to be able to impact many lives in a positive way.

There are a few truisms about life that I have recently discovered. It brings new adventures to be conquered every day. You can enjoy almost anything you do, as long as you are with the right person. It’s easier to be happy with someone else if you’re happy with yourself first. Life is too short to take everything seriously. A healthy life means smiling and laughing daily. Inner beauty trumps outer beauty every single time. And, finally, if you don’t make time for yourself or for your relationship, then no one will.

So what am I looking for in a potential match? Eventually I’m looking for the spark to light my fire. A mutual attraction. Someone with whom I can share common interests as well as develop new ones. No games. No drama. That special woman who is as comfortable in sweats cuddled in front of the television with the lights low as she would be at the theater or out for a nice dinner. I know that won't be immediate, but I look forward to the opportunity to converse, meet, go slow, and see where things are taken.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Working, cooking, cleaning, laundry, you know, the typical homemaker stuff :-) - actually, although that's really not too far from the truth. I usually have a project or two going on most of the time, whether it be a home improvement, personal improvement ('cause I ain't perfect), or just spending time with dogs or grandkids, or for a special treat, just getting in the car and seeing where it takes me.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I'm decent at a lot of things, but really good at? I don't know. A touch of anal retentiveness at times makes it seem like whatever I do, I can always do better. I'm a decent cook, a good person, and an even better listener.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Not really sure what they notice, or even what they should notice. Hope they notice my bright sunny disposition.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Not a big book person, but I enjoy dinner theater, symphonies, comedies, most music, from Sousa and Styx to Mozart and McCartney, and as far as food, I pretty much like anything, and am willing to try almost anything at least once.
TV - my guilty pleasures include Daily Show and Colbert, Animation Domination, DIY, Discovery, Food Network.
I also like to take in the local sports teams, time and weather permitting.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
That's a toughie....
In no particular order, family, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, an internet connection, clothes (at least in public), my sense of humor, and the ability to wake up every morning.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How I am going to spend the rest of my life, not the details, but the more general 'what's it hold for me'.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Football season finds me at high school games, but rest of the year, relaxing, cooking out, or contemplating my next road trip to nowhere in particular.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
That'll give us something to talk about :-)
