My Self-Summary

I'm a recent college grad in the midst of figuring out what I'm doing with my life. I'm a Christian who believes that Christianity is about not just personal growth but about helping those in need and loving everyone. I don't claim to be any better about succeeding at it than others, but I try. Also, I'm fascinated by anything to do with other cultures and their history and the world and how people interact in it. I love to learn more than just about anything. Also, though the preceding paragraph doesn't make me sound like it, I am a very very random/silly person.

What I’m doing with my life

Well, I just graduated from college, with a B.A. in Spanish. I was going to be a Spanish teacher but...that didn't work out so much. So now I'm interested in doing translation/research type stuff for nonprofits. Really my passion lately has been social justice, so I'm pretty excited about that. Buuuut for now I'm working at a title insurance company, which has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Spanish or social justice, to save up money for graduate school...fun times.

I’m really good at

speaking Spanish, I guess...I'm pretty good at playing the guitar and singing though I'm not really serious about it, it's just for fun.

The first things people usually notice about me

Probably that I'm a bit quiet and shy at first, around people I don't know. But my closer friends know that once I get to know people I'm really silly and random. I love to laugh.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

This is by no means a comprehensive list, just what I thought of off the top of my head...
Books- Harry Potter, anything by Agatha Christie, anything by Jane Austen, mysteries, and fantasy/science fiction
Movies- Anything Disney or Pixar, Clue, You've Got Mail, Lord of the Rings, What's Up Doc
Music of many kinds- pop, rock, country, alternative (long as it's not screaming) and broadway/musicals. Basically anything but rap.
Food- Chicken, pasta, pizza, rice, and anything I had when I was in Spain especially paella.

The six things I could never do without

Books (especially my Bible and my Spanish dictionary), my guitar, my computer and internet access, my cell phone, my earrings (lol), and....hmmmm...my cat. Though my roomie's probably gonna end up taking the kitty when I/she moves out. That's you know, aside from the obvious things like oxygen, food, sleep, etc.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

At the moment, what I'm going to do in the next year or so. Grad school? Next year? Two years? Studying what exactly? I'm still trying to figure it all out. But I've been reading up a lot on the stuff I'm interested in like (and I know this sounds terribly boring but I swear it's not) social/economic development and foreign languages and cultures, so I've been thinking a lot about that too.

On a typical Friday night I am

hanging out with friends, either watching a movie or playing video games with my roomie (especially Lego Star Wars and Lego Indiana Jones). Or reading a book.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Hmmm...thought about it, and for now I'll just say that even though I have a degree in Spanish and I spent five months in Spain and people have told me my Spanish is excellent...I still don't feel comfortable saying I'm anywhere near fluent. The thought of actually interpreting or something like that terrifies me- what if they say a word or phrase I don't know??? lol
