Your Notes
Edit your notesI am introspective, independent, and going to hell.
My Self-Summary
most of my news comes from NPR and the web. i hate local tv news. national tv news isn't much better much of the time.
i admire (and envy) people who are multilingual. It's very civilized. natural languages are much harder than computer languages.
i don't follow sports at all. olympic figure skating is kind of cool. post-olympic figure skating is kind of sad.
tv and radio ads drive me away. almost all my tv watching is of the playback variety. almost all of my radio listening is commercial-free.
i'm not into fourwheeling. or harleys. i hate norman rockwell.
i enjoy sitting in a restaurant with a book.
I’m really good at
The first things people usually notice about me
i'm frequently mistaken for a vegetarian. i'm not. i don't eat much red meat, but don't mind if you do. it has been at least fifteen years since i've eaten a hotdog. i don't mind if you do (but i don't recommend it).
people usually underestimate my age. it's a family trait.
i don't tan.
and the obvious: white, 5'10", 150 lbs, blond, blue, glasses.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
some books everyone should read: Maus, Life and Death in Shanghai, Angela's Ashes.
some movies you should see: Silence of the Lambs, The Royal Tenenbaums, Boys Don't Cry, Mulholland Drive, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Edward Scissorhands, The House of Flying Daggers.
March of The Penguins is about the utter meaninglessness of life. That life has no other point except to reproduce itself. That only self-awareness could make the life of an Emperor penguin any worse. am i the only person who sees this?
I'm between tv shows right now. But whatever Joss Whedon does next, I'm ready for it.
The best tv show that you should have watched: Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
Pulled out my trusty Enigma CDs, great stuff for long drives in the dark. "The shaman says 'Man is the dream of the dolphin'". Wow. When did that get in there? That is seriously not me. Well, it's still great stuff for drives in the dark.
Pulled out my Fine Young Cannibals. Whatever happened to Roland Gift, anyway? Hmm, a lot of timekeeping percussion. Disco, almost. Didn't notice that back in the 90's. Maybe not so timeless after all.
Pulled out my Eurythmics. Annie, you still rock.
I'm not very musical but my taste is not too narrow. Except that I'm really not into country music. I've taken a strange turn toward rap late in life. Except that the local rap station only rotates about six songs so I can't be sure.
I really do not like klezmer music. Or polka music which, to me, sounds about the same. And Indian drumming. There is nothing less musical than Indian drumming. There, I said it.
I'm not a meat and potatos kind of guy. I like good bakery. I don't eat ice cream. I don't mind if you do.
The six things I could never do without
Apparently I don't feel bound by somebody else's questionnaire.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
why free markets don't always produce what we want.
why thousands of my neighbors have to drive hours every day just for a job.
why the Republicans are kicking our ass. (update: the permanent Republican majority? gone?)
