My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hi! I'm Ethan. My favorite thing in the world is like, knowing and being known in conversation with someone. Could that someone be you? Read on to find out!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I studied linguistics (systematic analysis of language) for a few years in Tucson, but then I graduated/dropped out. Now I'm a web developer working at a tech company in SF. It's a funny story.

I'm really into effective altruism and reducing existential risk, but those are just my vague, long-term goals. My equally vague, but short-term, goals are more along the lines of understanding and improving human psychology and communication in myself and those around me.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Learning and making connections between different ideas. Coming up with analogies for things [self-demonstrating analogy to be added later].
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
It depends on the observer. Some people notice how everything I say is confusing, other people notice how everything I say is rude, and other people notice how everything I say is hilarious. It's weird that the percentages don't add up there, but that's the way it is.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: mostly delicious pop-science/psychology: Godel, Escher, Bach – The Stuff of Thought – The Signal and the Noise – Non-Violent Communication – The Righteous Mind – Facing the Intelligence Explosion – Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality – Waking Up – The Tao of Pooh – In Over Our Heads – Impro – Rationality: AI to Zombies;

and then some literature: 1Q84 - Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance - The Namesake; (let me know if there are other books I should try to get on this list)

TV: Game of Thrones and My Little Pony. (I watch other things too, like House of Cards and Adventure Time, but I like the insane level of juxtaposition here)

Food: MealSquares. They're fantastic.

Games: Space Alert, One Night Ultimate Werewolf, Dungeons & Dragons, Resistance/Avalon, Coup, Yomi, Jenga, Hex Strike, Blind Loyalty, Space Goats. Those last three I designed and developed myself (not that they're published or anything). They're alright.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game. evolution technology computers video games board games design programming artificial intelligence webcomics memes music language poetry statistics nootropics biases rationality self-improvement anthropic principle futurism effective altruism existential risk psychology discourse polyamory sexuality aging health the internet philosophy consciousness meditation perceptions development...

I do a lot of thinking.
