My self-summary
Does anybody find smart, sexy anymore? I do! I'm an Ethnomusicologist, adjunct professor of culture studies and art/music of NY
What I’m doing with my life
teaching; reading' singing; composing music (slowly but surely); getting the courage to perform on bigger, more intimidating stages; going to the movies; I meditate pretty much daily and used to host a monthly listening/meditation session on the upper westside, conscious of my (and everyone's power) to make a positive difference ... so I try to make mine a positive one ;-)
I actually spent much of my life as a musician / singer and am back at it again at this moment in time. Also have been teaching culture studies at a public college part time and just got hired to teach The Arts in NYC (how cool is that!!)
I try to live in the moment and pay greater attention to the quality of whatever I'm doing than what I do
I’m really good at
My work as an ethnomusicologist and a teacher. I am proud of the work I do and have done as a musician/singer, ethnomusicologist, teacher and of the person I have made of myself. I really dig excellence. I feel like, if you're going to do something, anything, then do it well. Otherwise you're bulls-itting your way through life and that is not sexy and its not cool with me. That includes being the person you really want to be in mind, body and spirit. There is nothing sexier to me than a man (or woman) who loves what they do and lives there life with conviction. Also having joie vivre is extremely sexy to me! And this might be expressed in work, in play or both.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Zora Neale Hurston, bell hooks, Michael Moore, Oprah, Laura Nyro, Sarah Vaughan, Milton Nascimentos, Democracy Now, the Coen Brothers, Eckhart tolle, Deepak Chopra, Brazil, Cuba, Trader Joes, TEDtalks, opening my students' heads/imaginations about what I teach (culture/race/gender issues), fine Italian clothes and shoes, fine quality and tasteful cologne on men ;-).

My most valued qualities in men or friends for that matter are having similar sense of humors (if we can laugh wildly together you've got me); trust (this is huge and I'm just too old to be foolin' with anything else); courage (having the courage to live the life you want to live, do what you want to do (within reason), speak what you want to speak; personal integrity (this relates to the last one); positive presence in the world (this manifests uniquely according to each personality.

Favorite things I've done recently are going to see Brazilian film at Moma with friend, visited national mall and museums in DC, Going out to hear exceptional jazz in NYC.
The six things I could never do without
My family. Friends. My spiritual / consciousness practice inclusive of meditation, Music. Travel. Books. Film. I think that's 7 but ...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
and why would I put this up here?
You should message me if
You are a creative person who likes art, books and culture and travel! Please be able to write and express yourself intelligently. A first communication consisting of a mere "Hi there!" followed by next to no commentary or poor English in your profile warrants no response from this end! You are beyond thinking in terms of gender or racial stereotypes as I am...
