I am a geeky movie loving book reading shambling collection of
contradictions bound tight around a core of silliness and a firm
belief that life happens and we ought to take the time to enjoy it
before it's gone. Some of my favorite activities; cycling, reading
(mostly sci fi), watching movies, watching very bad movies and
making fun of them, contemplating the heat death of the universe,
prowling online for funny things, games, photography, nature walks,
embracing my inner idiot, and pondering imponderables. If pressed I
can have serious conversation and sometimes enjoy a good debate or
exchange of viewpoints. My personal philosophy is largely similar
to buddhist views which is why I select it here as a religion
although I'd be hard pressed to elaborate on specific teachings and
the like. Essentially suffering is caused by wanting although from
my personal point of view wanting is fine it's simply a lack of
balance in the wanting that leads to our misery. I do my best to
seek the balance in my life and see reality as clearly as possible.
I'm a huge believer in personal responsibility.
I am geeky, easily amused, and unlikely to combust
What I’m doing with my life
Currently grinding away at a new degree after the lovely economy
clubbed me about the head quite savagely. Hopefully we're not all
living in tents in a couple years. The schedule is a bit rough but
I am enjoying the learning. Trying to hit the gym more but the
class schedule makes that rough, still managing a few times a week
I’m really good at
Irony, seriously. Computer tinkering. Cycling, hoping to get up to
20 mile rides being easy this summer. Listening. Being silly. Being
amused. Talking. Talking to myself. Reading. Thinking, sometimes.
Feline herder. Evil plots for world dominion that ultimately come
The first things people usually notice about me
The shaved head or the amusing selection of winter hats I stick on
it! Who doesn't want to be warm and sport a hat that says to the
world "Here is a man who is confident, or color blind!" I clean up
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Classic sci-fi Asimov, Heinlein, Bradbury, Clarke, Niven. I could
go on but if it's hard sf or space opera chances are I'll enjoy it.
I also like fantasy. I love me some satire also, Terry Prachett is
genius. I'm a history and science buff also so I enjoy articles on
either one. For music I like a bit of nearly everything but
country. Lately I've been on a huge coldplay kick.
The six things I could never do without
Feline overlord, internet, books, games, humor, a well honed view
of the universe and my place therein.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Everything. If something is worth thinking about it usually falls
into a few categories. Either it's deeply personal and requires you
to be self aware and honest, it's a matter of taste in which case
what is right for you is right but only for you, or it's ethical in
which case it can be argued ad nauseam and is rarely worth the
On a typical Friday night I am
Fridays I mostly like to stay in, recover from the work week and
store up energy for Saturday fun. Some sushi, a good or bad movie
and company are best!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I am addicted to lolcats.
You should message me if
You're brave, can laugh even when the humor is a bit demented and
want someone around who will make the day a little better.
