I am intellectual, kind, and like way cool.

My Self-Summary

I'm an artist, a nerd and a good person. Let's take those in order:

Artist - I paint and draw. At any random moment, I am probably thinking about my current projects and trying to keep from forgetting all the other ideas I want to work on.

Nerd - if you ever saw Buffy, I am kind of a Willow. Learning new things gives me a happy. I'm especially passionate about language and psychology. In my spare time, I like to lock people in rooms with one-way mirrors and subject them to experiments. Just kidding. I don't have any spare time.

Good person - it's important to me to try to be one. Here is what I look for and appreciate in other people and try to have myself:
Honesty, a lack of scheming in approaching people;
Altruism and empathy, capacity for loving and nurturing others;
Responsibility in making choices, and maturity in living with them;
Investment in doing the right thing;
Not seeking control over people;

What I am like in daily life:

Homebody who loves to travel but hates the actual process of getting from A to B. Don't like clubs. Love movies, museums and TV that is either really good, like 6 Feet Under and Dexter, or sublimely bad, like 24.

Love spending time with friends. Prefer small groups in pubs to large parties. Love to dance, but not past midnight. Past midnight I like to be sleeping.

Enjoy good food, but don't cook much because I would rather spend time making art, reading something interesting, taking photos or writing my blog.

When I am rested and ready-to-take-on-the-world-ish, I read Harper's magazine, technology/science reporting and cultural analysis. When I am tired, I read dooce.com and LOLcat compilations. I don't watch the news because they cause me to descend into despair about the human condition.

I'm a cat person, but also enjoy the company of horses and cows. Dogs are OK, but I don't like that they can be total turds if you don't put a lot of effort into training them. If I lived on a livestock farm, I'd probably bankrupt it because I'd chain myself to all the stock marked for slaughter and we would all die of hunger together.

What I’m doing with my life

I freelance as a web designer, which often means working full-time contracts for a few months at a time. I love design, but I love art way more, so whenever not chained to my desk, I'm in the studio, sometimes (consumer warning!) at the expense of housekeeping.

I'm happy with where I got to as a designer, but I have yet some mountains to climb as an artist, both in terms of work I want to produce and in terms of exhibitions, reviews etc.

I am satisfied with the amount of wild oats I have sown, and I am looking for a life partner and babydaddy rather than something casual.

I’m really good at

Thinking. Tweaking variables to solve a problem. Coming up with creative ideas. Painting, drawing, writing, photography.

Empathizing with other people. Playing with kids and beasts. Making my family laugh. Giving people presents unexpectedly. Helping people with stuff they need help with.

The first things people usually notice about me

Guessing here - probably my looks and my vocabulary. I also often get questions about the origins of my accent.

The six things I could never do without

An Internet connection. I did say I am a nerd.

My family and friends. I like them hanging around.

Something to read.

Something to learn.

Studio time.

Living by the sea, which I miss very badly.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What's wrong with humanity and what I could be thinking about instead that would be much more fun and uplifting.

On a typical Friday night I am

On the massage table.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Weeeell, I think I've spilled enough to total strangers.
