My new favorite thing is the latest album by Summoning. It really
takes me to Beleriand.
Metal is my usual choice - Samael, Gojira, Opeth, Sybreed, Arkona,
Amon Amarth, Ensiferum / Wintersun, to name a few. Electronic -
Blackmill, Thievery Corp., Bassnectar, Brian Eno. When all that
fails me there's always Wagner.
Just opened up "Saving the Appearances" by Owen Barfield, a
contemporary of Tolkien.
I'm steadily getting a comprehensive view of Nietzsche. Dan Dennett
is also a big one on my list. Otherwise there's Dune, Lord of the
Rings, Lovecraft, Stephen King, Arthur C. Clarke, Murakami,
Marquez, and Michael Crichton. And Calvin & Hobbes.
Fight Club, Contact, Adaptation, Casablanca, Eraserhead, A
Clockwork Orange, Princess Mononoke, Ghost in the Shell, There Will
Be Blood, The Seven Samurai, Battle Royale, The Raid Redemption,
300, Kick-Ass, Rocky, Excalibur, The Warriors, The Unbearable
Lightness of Being, Underworld.
