intellectual, open-minded, and recovering nerd
My self-summary Propose an edit
I'm a pretty average 22-year-old guy. Born and raised in Orange
County, now I live in San Diego for school where I'm majoring in
computer science with a minor in Japanese studies. Currently I'm
starting into my last year of college and after that I'm not sure
what the future holds. Right now I'm going through the "what do I
do after college" phase of my life, but I think that happens to
everyone so I'm not too worried...yet.
My personality is pretty laid-back. I'm content to live and let
live, and I try to be friendly and respectful to everyone that I
meet. Friends and family are very important to me, and I'm very
giving of myself to those that I care about. I was raised in a
religious family which is perhaps why I'm not particularly
religious now, I think it's more important to try and lead a good
life rather than get caught up in dogma. I always try to be very
open-minded and considerate.
In my free time I like to hang out with friends or play video games. I
wouldn't say that I'm a big party-goer; I prefer to spend time with
smaller groups of close friends as opposed to large groups of
people I don't know. However, I'm not opposed to going to the
occasional party or club, and I'm not anti-social by any
means.
For physical activities I like riding bikes and occasionally
working out at the gym. Also, I've recently started swimming laps instead of
jogging and I'm liking it so far. Eventually I want to learn how to
surf, somehow I haven't learned yet despite growing up in CA.
Also, I really enjoy traveling. Two years ago I did a
year-long study abroad program at Tokyo University in Japan and it
was an amazing experience. I've also been to Australia and the UK,
and I'm always eager to visit new places both abroad and here in
the US.
I'm straight-acting, though I resent the fact that that term even
exists. I don't think there's any way to say that straight people
act one way and gay people act another. The only thing that my
sexuality defines is who I'm attracted to, not my
personality.
I'd really like a boyfriend who is caring and just as much a friend
as a lover. I've never been into finding hook-ups or
one-night-stands; I need to feel like I'm loved by the person I'm
with. My ideal match would be someone I could feel completely
comfortable with and someone who genuinely appreciates me. Also,
they'd be someone I could give tons of hugs to!
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
Currently I'm working towards my bachelor degree in Computer
Science, but I'm not sure what happens after graduation. I
really don't want to end up in a job where I'm sitting behind a
computer all day, unfortunately most Computer Science-oriented
careers involve exactly that.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
I'm really good at learning languages. I was able to pick up
Japanese and speak it to a near-fluent degree after 3 years (though
living in the country for one of those years certainly helped). My
accent is also good enough that I can sometimes trick people into
thinking that I'm part Japanese. It's really fun to be able to do
that.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
My hair is fairly noticeable, I suppose. It's gotten pretty long
now, and my friends comment on it quite a bit. Until a few years
ago I had always kept it fairly short. I could be convinced to cut
it I suppose...
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Books: Anything by Michael Crichton, or other
sci-fi/fantasy like Lord of the Rings
Movies / TV: Generally I'm pretty open with movies and TV, but I
really enjoy great science fiction like Firefly. Also I really like The Office, Lost and Futurama.
Music: Generally everything but rap and hip-hop. I'm mostly into
modern rock, my favorite band is the Foo Fighters.
Food: Japanese and Mexican (not together though, that's just
disgusting). I'm always open to trying new things, and I've had
several strange food items in my travels abroad...
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
Paper Towels. I had to do without them in Japan for a while and
cleaning up spills with toilet paper is not fun.
Slippers. I really hate having cold feet, and a pair of warm fuzzy
slippers can be the best thing in the world on cold days.
My trusty laptop. (Well actually, I'm now on my 3rd trusty laptop.)
It's my main way of keeping in touch with those who are important
to me and checking up on the world, so I don't like to be without
it.
Hot tea. Nothing feels better to me on cold days or when I'm sick,
except for perhaps the aforementioned slippers. Both green and
black tea are fine.
Exercise. Getting outside is essential for my sanity, especially
when I've been inside programming for an extended period of
time
Friends and Family. I realize that sounds cliche, and saying that
it sounds cliche sounds cliche as well, but there really is nothing
more important.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
I often think about what I could be doing better. I'm constantly
doing a mental critique of my study/exercise habits and other
aspects of my life, looking for ways that I can improve. At times I
think this habit can lead to a lot of unnecessary stress, but
overall I think it drives me to be a better person.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Usually I'm either hanging out with friends or spending a quiet
evening at home. When I'm really busy I'll be working on school
projects or studying.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I'm absolutely terrified of spiders, even very tiny ones. I can't
even look at pictures of spiders without feeling like I need to
leave the room. It's really childish, but it's something I've never
been able to get over.
You should message me if Propose an edit
You should message me if I sound like a guy you'd like to get to
know. I'm always welcome to the idea of making new friends, so if
you'd like to drop me a line please don't hesitate. Also, I'd
really like to meet someone who I could make a lasting relationship
with. If I'm someone that interests you, please let me know! =)
