My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a midwesterner just arrived in Indy this September to take on a very cool job.

My "about" tab may be a little short on personality and long on lists. The questions tab is a better bet (unless you're just skimming for movie recommendations, of course); I usually browse "unacceptable answers" and "have explanations" there.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Being the devil's advocate. I'm the sort who takes the LSAT for kicks and greatly enjoys debate, absurdity and wordplay.

Learning the first 10% of a language.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My widow's peak (natural dracula hair), if they approach from the right angle; and my nose from any other.

and sports and comedy

Literature. My go-to literature is a $1 Shakespeare tome, the Atlantic and a short list of blogs. I haven't gotten much other normal reading done since starting grad school; and my liberal-arts undergrad education burned me out on books for a while there, too. It's picked up a little thanks to ebooks. Back when, I was a fan of Dostoyevsky, Saramago, Nietzsche, Gogol, Tennessee Williams and the rest.

Movies. Volver, Ratatouille, What about Bob?, Fanny and Alexander, Do the Right Thing, The Host/Goemul, Ran, Infernal Affairs and The Long Goodbye.

TV shows. Cowboy Bebop and The Wire are my favorites by a mile. Among current TV shows: Modern Family, Archer, Orange is the New Black, Peaky Blinders and Washington Week.

Radio shows. Marketplace, This American Life, Morning Becomes Eclectic and The World.

Music. Nirvana, Cee-lo Green, MF DOOM, Amy Winehouse, Janelle Monae, Moloko, Copy and Bonobo are tops. Beyond that, there's just Flamenco and anything in Portuguese (like Fado and MPB). I find new music on KCRW. In rotation now: Meg Myers, Camarón de la Isla.

Food. The less processed it is, the better. Indian/Himalayan food is my favorite, though Greek is also up there. Also: dumplings from all around the world.

Sports. I like running, downhill skiing, backpacking and kayaking. I ran a single marathon (very slowly) and went on several longish backpacking trips back in the day. I hope to get around to doing that sort of thing again soon, and have long planned to try out similar stuff (trail running, orienteering). I'd like to learn how to swim better for exercise, but the university's swimming courses seem to fill up awfully quickly.

I'll enjoy watching a game now and then, but I've never invested in following players or grown attached to a team. I watch The Voice and think that's got same idea, marketing-wise. See, I understand sports!

I also like board games, especially the abstract ones. Here's a reference because a couple of people have asked:

Comedy. If you have read this far, I suggest you check out @markleidner, @rolldiggity, @DemetriMartin and @Jeffely on Twitter. Good stuff, I say.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Language, cities, game theory, prices (my job, since autumn)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I never clean my gmail inbox and just hit 10,000 unread messages today after almost ten years of use. Also, I really wish I could change the address I picked way back then.

If you also want to do something around town, let's attempt it... a show at a comedy club, concert, festival, visit to a local tourist draw or run, say.

If your taste matches mine, recommend stuff. Anyone who counts more than one thing above among his/her favorites is my kind of people to a first approximation.

If you ever use the word "fraught," please reconsider before speaking, writing, thinking or living any further. Unless you're Ira Glass.
