I am passionate, intelligent, and calm..

My Self-Summary

Hi there!

I'm a fun, fat, quirky gal who likes to spice things up in the bedroom. I am poly and kinky, but am open to relationships in a variety of combinations.

My primary intellectual, emotional, romantic and sexual attractions are with women but I occasionally like a quiet, sub boy.

I've been working full-time for the past 20 years or so but have recently decided to go back to school. I finished a Masters in April and am now doing my PhD.

I'm quiet and can be a homebody but I also like good restaurants, pubs, chats and hanging out with friends. I enjoy movies and spend a lot of time reading...more time reading fiction than I am sure my PhD advisor would appreciate.

What I’m doing with my life

Grad school. Creating social change in the world. I work a variety of jobs - university instructor, freelance writer, consultant for non-profits. I like to volunteer and find new ways of challenging the status quo.

I like writing a lot. Both the act of doing it and reading it. I am an advocate for fair copyright reform and protection for the rights of writers, and treatment of all writers - including those who write non-fiction - as artists.

I do a lot of work around homelessness, anti-poverty, and municipal change. I also am into harm reduction and volunteer with a needle exchange program.

I’m really good at

solving conflicts between people and groups. Listening. Creating middle ground. BBQing the perfect steak. Being a friend. Putting people back together.

The first things people usually notice about me

is that I maintain an incredible sense of calm in a crisis and that I can build bridges in conflicts. I tend to be very analytical and logical and expect people to be able to examine multiple sides of an issue before making any decisions about it. I want to play a part in changing the world so tend to wear my politics and beliefs pretty openly.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: The list would be long -- Gulliver's Travels, 1984, Brave New World, Wuthering Heights, He She It, Vida, Women on the Edge of Time, Left Hand of Darkness, Ain't I a Woman, Rules for Radicals, Utopia, Teaching to Transgress, Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Walking on Water....most pop fiction, crime novels, detective stories, chick lit.

Movies: When the Levees Broke, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Boys on the Side, Hairspray (original version), Muriel's Wedding, The Gods Must Be Crazy (1 and 2), Momento....on and on.

TV: B5, 6 Ft under, Numb3rs, CSI (except NY) and Law and Order (all of them including UK).

Music: Pretty much anything; just depends on my mood.

Food: Meat, caesar salad, chicken wings, steak, pizza, corn on the cob, chocolate (dark only), soup. Thai, Indian, Chinese. Fav restaurants right now are Golden Thai (downtown) and Mongolian Grill (North end)

The six things I could never do without

social justice, my cats, books, a really good steak, my laptop (or my netbook) and my friends.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

New Orleans. I am kinda obsessed with it. If you haven't seen Spike Lee's When the Levees Broke - run out to rent or buy it. It's long and needs time to watch and process.

My PhD will examine New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina using a methodology known as a "Social Autopsy". This will examine the various factors that contributed to the destruction of certain parts of the city while others were protected/saved. It will also explore these factors in the context of the rebuilding efforts.

On a typical Friday night I am

either hanging out with friends or watching movies/reading books at home.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Nothing yet :-)

You should message me if

If you're female (cisgendered or trans) or a transguy looking for friendship or a relationship. I'm open to friends as well.

You're poly or open to being in a relationship with someone who is.

You understand that honesty and communication are the first two rules of a relationship.
