I am passionate, positive, and cynically idealistic.

My Self-Summary

I am passionate, lefty, educated, clumsy chica.

I have a crazy variety of awesome hobbies (enough that they could probably be a full time job). They include surfing, gardening, cooking, being crafty on a rainy day, hiking, international travel and going to see live music. Getting outside is a BIG priority. I have recently started to really enjoy board games, though mostly word ones like Scrabble and Apples-to-Apples (strategy is not my strong suit).

I can take certain things very seriously, like air pollution, while still allowing other things, like remembering to put bills in the mailbox, slip by unnoticed. I am a committed activist and take participating in this world seriously.

What I’m doing with my life

Lately I seem to be spending a lot of my time learning how to do things that most people sensibly pick up at a much earlier age (e.g. skateboarding...).

Trying to learn how to be in two places at once (one being a beautiful beach, mountain, or sidewalk in a interesting city and the other being the rest of "life" including going to my day-job, seeing my friends and family, vacuuming under my couch, and sleeping).

Day Job: I am a l-a-w-y-e-r (shhhhhh......). Don't hate me, I like to think of myself as a lawyer who hates lawyers. smile.
I theoretically work to make the planet a more livable place!

Non Jobs:
When not "lawyering" I get out and play as much as possible in this wonderful world. The meaning of life is living it! I have been surfing for a couple of years now and like to spend as much time as I can doing that.

I’m really good at

Forgetting people's names about .25 seconds after I learn them.
Blurting out awkward things that I will wince about later on in the day. I do this a minimum of twice a day.

I fortunately seem to be reasonably good at making friends, whether it is with the guy that works at the bodega around the corner, the bus driver taking me to some place in a foreign country, or my boss. I have a warm personality that allows most people to feel comfortable around me quickly.

The first things people usually notice about me

-my wildly curly hair that is often angry at me for giving it constant chlorine and saltwater immersions!
-my funky orange or blue glasses
-that I am always the first one to jump into a debate, even if I know better!
-my welcoming way of asking people about their lives and interests
-(if you are at my apartment) that my houseplants are likely to take over my life any day now

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I am entirely unsure what I gather when I read other's lists (other than that there are a lot of fantasy book reading men in the world, and a lot of people citing Nitsche on here). Lets see what these say about me:

Written Words (how about ones I have recently read and enjoyed instead): The Hummingbird's Daughter, The Adventures of Cavalier and Clay, Water for Elephants, the latest Surfers Journal, my best friend's hilarious blog, Michael Pollan books or other food politics stuff, the NYTimes. I just moved from Berkeley to SF and am actually missing the required reading time I got on BART.

Media- I am not a huge movie or tv watcher. I do have a silly and insane love for surf films (particularly locally made films about waves I have visited, or those with great soundtracks and little in the way of dumb surfer talk!). I also have an embarrassing love for period films about England (hot, I know. . . come on, Jane Austen on the big screen doesn't do it for you??). I am an avid KQED listener, pledge drives and all. BBC World, World Affairs Forum, "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me!!!", and This American Life.

Tunes- genres include indie rock, reggae, folk, alt-country, latin, "rock." My recent favs are Ryan Adams (no, not Brian, no Summer of '69 for me), Xavier Rudd (aww.. he sings about saving the planet, sure way to my heart) and Rodrigo y Gabriela.

Yum- I love to cook, and have lots of things that I love to make for myself or others. Getting down to the basics: artichokes, mangoes, any fruit in its absolute prime of the season, butternut squash. I am a life-long vegetarian, but I won't preach to you about it (unless you ask me to). I have a soft spot in my heart for Mexican and Indian Food in particular.

The six things I could never do without

the ocean

family

music to dance to

faith that we can make the world a better place

random smiles from strangers

unvisited places

I spend a lot of time thinking about

-How every time I seem to master that challenge that was hindering my surfing there seems to be yet another one in the way. I suppose that is what makes it fun, but sometimes it would be nice to just feel like I "get it."
-How amazing it is that the worms and microbes living in my compost heap seem to convert so much matter in so little time
-Wait, the American people really believe [fill in today's random poll results like "offshore drilling will reduce gas prices this week" or "margarine is good for you!"]???? Who are these people, can this bubble I live in really be that impervious???

On a typical Friday night I am

Visiting with friends at a bar, in a house, at a concert, or at my home or theirs. Checking the surf report and plotting the next morning's adventure. Watering my houseplants.

Lately I have been going for a swim at the Dolphin Club after work on Fridays and then sticking around for beers with the younger crowd there or at the South End. That is if I don't get eaten by a sea lion first, which has suddenly become a reality I hadn't previously considered.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

nothing truly private could be posted on the good old world wide web.

You should message me if

-You like getting out on the weekends. Whether it is for an urban adventure (the latest street fair, new museum, random hole-in-the-wall that is 12 BART stations from anywhere you have any reason to be) or hitting the beach, the trail, or just your backyard.
-You spend hours at your desk remembering the smells of the mangoes on your last vacation, and then you start planning your next.
-You like having someone around who will challenge your wacky ideas, but defend those ideas later on in different company.
-You can teach me new words or how to improve my pop-up
