I am intellectual, shy, and wishful.
My Self-Summary
I'm trying this site out mainly because it seems fun and it's free.
I'm not quite ready to pay for something like match.com. I'm
looking to make some friends and maybe see where anything leads. My
family moved right after I graduated high school from the Chicago
area to SW Michigan, which isn't exactly the most highly populated
area. So while I was at college I didn't really have the chance to
make new friends after the move. I'm out of college now and haven't
really been able to make friends around here, which sucks. I'm a
pretty quiet person, not exactly the clubbing type. I go to the
movies and read a lot. Anyways I don't really know what else to
say.
Oh and I did not appreciate having to do that 3-word description up
there. I'm hoping I did ok.
What I’m doing with my life
Technically I'm a chemist. But right now I'm unemployed. It seems
like I've been trying to decide whether or not to go to graduate
school. I've wanted a PhD in chemistry since high school (I'm such
a geek!) but I never have been able to find the right time. So I'm
trying to get more motivated in that area. In the meanwhile I'm
thinking about other options like studying to be a pharmacy tech or
working in a medical lab. But otherwise I spend my days mostly
taking care of the animals and looking for jobs.
I’m really good at
I make sure I always have a book around to read. Math seems to be
easy to me. I spend a lot of time at the barn with horses so I'm
pretty capable with anything out there. I don't know if that counts
as being good at anything. I've never been able to do anything like
stick my tongue out to touch my nose or anything.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm hoping good things. But let's face it, nobody's perfect. So I'm
not going to torture myself over this question or even try to find
something to lie about.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
OK now I used to have this big long paragraph about what I loved in
each of this catagories as I was trying to avoid making lists. But
now looking at other people's, it's seems like everyone has lists
and that will be the easiest way to include more things without
writing 20 pages. Also I'm including TV since it seems like a lot
of people are doing that.
Food: General American cuisine, pasta, steaks (although I haven't
had one in a very long time because we mostly eat poultry around
here & it's so expensive at restaurants) & cheeseburger
pie, which is a specialty of my mom's
Books: Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, the Anne of Green Gables
series, Harry Potter, Twilight saga, tons of random stuff, Neil
Gaiman, Phillippa Gregory - so much of this sounds historical &
girly but really there are lots of other things I read that don't
fit that catagory, just can't think of them. I've been finding a
lot of books that are being made into movies to read & stuff
that has been done on Masterpiece Theater.
Movies: any Johnny Depp movie, especially those that he worked on
w/Tim Burton, Shakespeare in Love, Across the Universe, The
Shawshank Redemption, those Kevin Costner baseball movies, a lot of
the movies that correspond with my reading preferences, especially
Pride & Prejudice, Zodiac, When Harry Met Sally, and since I
have most of my DVDs packed up, I can't remember more, but there
are a lot more
Music: I have to warn you upfront that I'm a HUGE Tori Amos &
Beatles fan. I know most people haven't heard of Tori or don't like
her. I knew of her before I started listening to her & had the
impression that it was something I'd hate, but I wound up
completely wrong. So I do ask people to give her a chance. But
other random thoughts: Blue October, OAR, Coldplay, Alanis, most
music that would qualify to be on an oldies station, corny &
classic songs of the 80s, Aimee Mann, Lisa Loeb, Goo Goo Dolls, U2,
classical, Paul McCartney, swing music, like Cherry Poppin'
Daddies, classic rock. Most everything except "smooth jazz",
country, & hip-hop/rap.
TV: the sadly recently departed ER *tear*, The Office, 30 Rock,
Dancing With the Stars (guilty), The Amazing Race, Adult Swim
(although I've unfortunately been living without Cartoon Network
for awhile now), Medium, Scrubs, Desparate Housewives. I used to
watch a lot of the various Law & Orders, but I kind of lost
interest I think around the time they really messed around with the
detectives on Criminal Intent. It just seems like there were a lot
of cast changes all at once one all the show & it pissed me
off. I like to watch PBS - Masterpiece Theater, Antiques Roadshow,
Check, Please (that's a local Chicago one as far as I know), &
they just started a series called Lost in Austen.
The six things I could never do without
1. horses (especially mine) - I really believe in what Winston
Churchill said "There's something about the outside of a horse
that's good for the inside of a man."
2. chocolate - hey dark chocolate's healthy right?
3. healthcare, even if the system is screwed up here
4. sleep - that probably should come off the list because I've been
sleeping too much as of late & need to put my time to better
use
5. Fuzzy, my alien stuffed animal that I've had since I was five.
And yes, she still spends the night in my bed.
6. I'm stuck between music & books so I'll say both.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
-What I could have done differently in my life.
-How much of my college education has truly stuck with me.
-What's the next thing I'll end up doing.
On a typical Friday night I am
Either home waiting for my mom to get back from work or at a
movie/play & dinner. Some times at a trivia night if we're
lucky to find one.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I spend most of my time talking to the animals at home since
there's no one else around. Even at the barn I only get to see my
horse or sometimes none, in which time I feel truly pathetic to
have been ditched by a horse. But sometimes there's actually people
to talk to out there. Please don't think I'm crazy....
You should message me if
You're looking for someone to talk to. I'm usually pretty good
about writing. And you Chicago and South Bend type people who seem
to think SW Michigan is a magical far-away land, it's actually
closer than you might think (although I'm not so sure about the
magical part).
Oh and also if you might be willing to go to a Tori concert with
me. Last time she toured I went to Indy & the person I went
with was undr the impression we were going to see a classical piano
recital or something. And I wound up out money since she didn't pay
me for the ticket & I paid for the hotel. This tour is July to
December I think.
