I am fanciful, effervescent, and ineffable.
My Self-Summary
I am currently working as a wed developer who had a brief stint as
a cook. Have a couple of years living in Toronto and enjoying the
hell out of it. Love to walk/ride around the city and be in places
where I hadn't been before. Among the things I enjoy are
photography,
cycling around town,
exploring
the city,
tea and
cooking.
What I’m doing with my life
Enjoying Toronto. This is an awesome city, and just being here
makes me happy. There're art, music, food, events and just good
times to be had pretty much all year long.
Am also a bit focused on my career. The corporate world is not the
most fun of places, but I am lucky enough to work at a place with
plenty of opportunities and good people.
I’m really good at
I think I am good at stuff that requires rational thinking,
consider myself a decent soccer player, scrapping my shoulders in
door frames, cooking when in the mood (I make a mean Guac, and my
flan is also pretty awesome if I may say so).
The first things people usually notice about me
My accent. People ask about it.
My piercings.
Every couple of months is the hair.
My camera.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: Chronicle of a death foretold, the Thought Gang, The Amazing
Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, Watchmen, Cloud Atlas, American
Gods, 1984, El Llano en Llamas
Movies: Miller's Crossing, Memento, Life Aquatic, The Royal
Tanenbaums, Brazil, The Squid and The Whale, Y Tu Mama Tambien, The
Big Lebowski, Blade Runner, El orfanato, There will be blood.
Guilty pleasure bad movie: 300
Music: Ted Leo, Neko Case, My Morning Jacket, The Decemberists, The
New Pornographers, Elliott Smith, Neil Young, Harry Nilsson, The
Kinks, Velvet Underground, Bowie, The Black Keys, The White
Stripes, Grandaddy, Fleet Foxes, Wilco. I also believe the
resonator guitar is the best musical instrument ever made. There is
sometimes an old man playing it at Osgoode station. It os difficult
for me not to stay for a few minutes and listen to him,
Food: Mexican, Japanese (sushi and udon just make me feel good),
Thai. I have a really sweet tooth, and also have the opinion that
really few things can beat a good serving of poached eggs with
hollandaise and an English muffin. Brunch is always welcome and
awesome. I love philly cheese steak when it's good, which has been
something difficult to attain since Manhattan sandwiches closed
down.
TV: Star Trek (original series), Lost, It is Always Sunny in
Philadelphia, Newsradio, The Venture Bros, BSG (although I only
watched the first two seasons and have been meaning to watch the
rest of the series for a while now), Quantum Leap.
Quotes:
"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the
stars."
"Maths is hard." [sic]
The six things I could never do without
Bicycle. I both live and work downtown, so there's no better way
for me to move around the city.
Camera. Every time I go out without it I feel as if something's
missing.
A book in hand. You never know when you'll end up waiting for
something. Said that, I have accumulated way too many books and the
"to-read" pile just keeps getting bigger.
Music. I don't like MP3 players that much to be honest. If I am
taking the subway I rather read, and when walking I'd rather pay
attention to what's around me, said that, music has always been
important for me. Some people and moments of my life are very
intimately attached to some songs, and just get nostalgic/sad/happy
when as soon as it comes out.
Messenger bag, to carry the book and whatnot... and it's not a
murse (man-purse) goddammit.
Tea or coffee. I try to only drink one cup of coffee per day,
usually in the morning when I get to work, to get start pounding
some work. Then I keep up with some tea.Earl grey for the afternoon
and usually rooibos for the night.
Chamomile. Better than drugs, and even if some people call it tea,
it is not really tea. Drinking this before bed is just amazing, and
I am just afraid I'd end up being unable to sleep without taking a
cup of this, and even more afraid that one day I'll way cup and
it's going to be illegal.
My passport. Wouldn't be able to be here without it. I also plan to
start using it a lot more in the coming years.
Pastries!
And yeah, that is more than six. Take that OKCupid!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My brain is a weird beast shifting my thoughts from one interest to
another every now and then. These interest "cycles" usually last a
few weeks, and are usually revisited by my brain every few other
weeks. Sometimes they last for months, and this is also the way in
which I have acquired some more permanent hobbies, like photography
and bike-riding.
On a typical Friday night I am
Friday nights are usually spent with my friends at a pub, just
talking about this and that, catching up on the occurrences of the
week, making fun at one another.
Then maybe hitting last call at java house (two blocks from my
place) with my roomates, and coming back with a buzz to sing in
rock band (self-aggrandized videogaming karaoke). I also have a
terrible singing voice!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I like whipped cream in my latte. Not very private yeah, but as
private as I am willing to go. I am very wary about broadcasting my
stuff over the interwebs.
You should message me if
You want to explore the city, be it by looking for fine places to
eat, walking around and taking photographs, or just be lost in
conversation.
You want to share a cup of tea or coffee and a long winded chat.
