After having worked hard to start up my career I have taken it upon myself to try as many new things as I can. I have been blown away by just how much Seattle and the Olympics have to offer; it makes me wish for much longer weekends to just fit everything. I am constantly discovering new things to pursue (even now I am researching scuba diving). I tend to try to not take life too seriously; it helps prevent that awkwardness that comes with being terrible at the start of any new hobby. The ability to ride one wave makes the dozen's that I fall on worth it! At the end of the day it is all worth it for that great feeling of improvement as you are laying in bed sore from getting smacked around by waves for hours, or raw hands after climbing the hardest routes you can manage. I am on a constant search to find out what to do with my life but goddamn is the journey to that answer fun.
What I’m doing with my life
I am a design engineer for a small manufacturing company and work
with industrial engineers to design new product lines. I love the
balance between creativity and practicality, trying to make
beautiful products that work well.
In my free time I have been spending a good amount of time at a
rock climbing gym; it is like solving a puzzle with your body. If
you haven't got the chance to try it I highly recommend it! Outside
of that I am often out in Seattle dancing, at home drawing/playing
games, or over in the mountains hiking and camping.
I’m really good at
Dancing! Currently I am taking classes on west coast swing dancing
which I have loved. I plan on trying out salsa and lindy at some
point as well!
The first things people usually notice about me
Before LASIK my thick rim hipster glasses were likely at the top of the list, no clue now! Probably my grin that is big enough to make my eyes look closed.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I have a huge love for satire/absurdist novels: Gulliver's Travels, Candide, Catch-22, and absolutely everything written by Vonnegut. I have tried to expose myself to more poetic novels and have found Kahlil Gibran's Prophet to be one of the few novels I can reread over and over.
I like my movie to either make me think or laugh. I am a sucker for psychological thrillers like Fight Club, Scanner Darkly, Donnie Darko, and Memento.
I love hunting down new music, I tend to like hiphop, EDM, and indie music though I know that is extremely broad. Artists in particular I love are Modest Mouse, Kendrick Lamar, Madvillain, Flaming Lips, Tame Impala, Infected Mushroom and Fatboy Slim to name a few.
I have a huge love of Thai and Indian food though sushi does hold a special place in my heart.
The six things I could never do without
Olive Oil - The life blood of the Portuguese (My mother's side)
Coffee - Removing the need to balance my social and work life
Music - Makes everything feel like a movie
The Big City - To experience new things and meet people
The Great Outdoors - Same as above but replace people with mosquitoes
The sixth answer to this question
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How I want to spend my life, for now I am content exploring all the options.
On a typical Friday night I am
Typically at a nightclub dancing my ass off assuming I am not spending my weekend camping in the mountain or on the coast.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
18 year old me is in Nerdcore Rising, a movie about Nerdcore Hiphop. Now I can't watch it without cringing.
You should message me if
You like to try out new things! We can look for something to try
out in Seattle; personally I would really love to go see the
