I`m essentially interested in TWO things:
* the Psychology of Human Being (= of being Human) - see later -
and in
* Languages - or more precisely: in "Language" as a phenomenon and
the secret of (good) conversation:
though I`m actually learning
Arabic as my 6th language ( ...well with
my little
Spanish
and not so little French I`ll come up to 8), I`m more interested in
finding answers to questions of Comparative Linguistics like:
(•) why can there never be a PERFECT translation? why, for
instance, is it impossible to translate certain jokes? why you can
not express certain complex things like emotions in every language
in the same or almost same way?
The truth is, that not even in ONE language you can ever transmit
an idea 100% precisely! When we speak, we communicate on different
"channels" (cf.(•)) at the same time and you can not say to which
of them the other party will pay most attention: this is the root
of every misunderstanding!!
(if you are interested in the subject, drop me a line and I`ll
explain...)
(•) what are the consequences, that words have different ranges of
meaning in the several languages? how do various possibilities (and
kinds - cf. (•)) of expressing things condition / mould / limit
(native) speakers in their way of thinking / acting /
expressing?
(•) what are the channels of Human communication (body-language,
gestures, illness&accidents, sign-language of deaf people, ...
) and what their inter-cultural differences?
