I'm a city-dwelling, outdoors-loving, dog-owning, government drone who happens to love her government job. I do environmental health research and if you show even the tiniest bit of interest in my work I'll happily tell you about it for hours. However, I have no problems leaving my work at the office and I keep myself busy in my free time with a pretty random assortment of activities.

Other than my job, I spend my free time outdoors as much as possible, camping, running and skiing, swimming, and hanging out with my dog. In the past few years I've also taken up knitting and sewing and I just started taking cello lessons. I also took a detour in my government career a while ago to go to cooking school, so on occasion I'll do some baking for my friends. And I have a cat. So, basically I'm turning myself into a relatively athletic 80 year old woman.

Crosswords, specifically the Globe & Mail's Saturday crossword. On occasion I will invite you to help me out, but I will always take all the credit. I'm selfish that way. I'm also very good at learning to play musical instruments. I may never master them, but I can most definitely play 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' on the recorder, piano, trumpet, guitar, and cello.

Would this also be the appropriate place to brag about my french scores on the government second language test?

Books: I love Charles Bukowski as much as I love Kathy Reichs. I will always have a place in my bookcase for every single one of Roald Dahl's books. Other authors I like include Chuck Palahniuk, James Herriot (yeah, the Yorkshire vet dude), Jane Jacobs, and David Sedaris.

Food: I will eat just about anything, with the exception of a few organ meats, and although I don't like mushrooms, I will tolerate them because I've been told way too many times that it's ridiculous to dislike mushrooms. I don't eat meat on a regular basis, but I don't really care if you do. Whenever I go out for breakfast I invariably order french toast with a side order of breakfast sausage. I will always order creme brulee for dessert at a restaurant if they have it on the menu. I love cheese - the stinkier the better - and firmly believe that the only place processed cheese slices belong is in a grilled cheese sandwich.

Music: I like all sorts of everything. I listen to kexp out of Seattle because they consistently introduce me to fantastic new artists.

Movies: I really loved the last movie I watched - Entre les murs.
