I am occasionally cranky, frequently charmed, and sapiosexual.

My Self-Summary

I'm a fat, polyamorous, bisexual, butch kitty. I belong to the Green party but I voted for Obama. I'm a feminist, trying to get a grasp on privilege. Nontheist. Buddhist. Wordsmith by trade.

Blog interests list dump:

What I’m doing with my life

When I am not working, spending too much time on the net (hm, should this be "participating vigorously in the global electronic community"?, or hanging out with my sweeties, family, friends, and pets, I volunteer at an animal shelter, play with beads, pick up a word of Japanese here and there (mostly by watching anime and movies), torture yarn with hooks and needles, and write fiction, rants, and poetry.

To expand a couple of those categories:

Sweeties: I live with my primary partner, aka the "Outlaw Husband" (we got married but didn't tell the government). I have two long-term local partners I don't live with. I have a few other connections that fall into the TOCOTOX (TOo COmplicated TO eXplain) category.

Pets: Two cats, Angus and Biscuit.

I’m really good at

Some of these are things I think I'm good at, and some of them are things other people have told me I'm good at.

writing, editing, knitting, teaching knitting, geek answer syndrome, shoulder rubs, discerning patterns, thinking psychologically, being concise, translating between paradigms, perspective switching, snuggling

Editors

The first things people usually notice about me

Online: articulate, possibly intimidating. Offline: female, fat, initially shy/reserved. Gender presentation somewhere in the butch/geek/earth-mama quadrants. Some people say I am calming to be around.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Well written non-sexist speculative fiction, science fiction, fantasy (e.g., Ursula K. Le Guin, Tiptree award winners)

Movies: 2001: A Space Odyssey and Wings of Desire (Der Himmel Über Berlin), anime (e.g., Ghost in the Shell and Miyazaki), science fiction

I like music with an underlying simplicity, across all genres. I had an argument with a friend once because I said Bach had an underlying simplicity and they said Bach was very complex. This is one of those "amplectere potestem 'et'" (embrace the power of 'and') things.

Food: Mostly peasant food (noodles, burritos) but I'm also a fan of the chef Ron Siegel of Iron Chef fame.

The six things I could never do without

The basic physical needs of carbon based mammalian lifeforms, curiosity, conversation, rhythm, cats, alone time

I spend a lot of time thinking about

polyamory, isms (e.g., racism, sexism, classism), gender, what makes people tick, ethics, writing, speculative fiction, sociology, psychology, animals, my deep ambivalence about Hello Kitty.

Also I ponder what OKCupid's category "short term dating" means.

On a typical Friday night I am

Hanging with a sweetie, watching a movie, making something out of yarn

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I am kink-friendly except I don't do DS.

I can't walk long distances.

I have a mood disorder, which is managed reasonably well by medication.

You should message me if

...you want to, and one or more of the following applies:

You are local and think you might want to hang out and watch anime with me and my OH and our cats (or might want us to hang out and watch anime with you and yours).

You know me from somewhere else on the net.

You want to have a conversation with me.

You want to meet me and are willing to have a conversation first.

You think you might be attracted to me and are willing to have a conversation first and take the rest of it kinda slow. (Right now, I'm not Ms. Right Now.)
