QuiverFail

So OKCupid puts someone in my quiver, and I look at their profile,
and I'm informed that my message won't be highlighted in their
inbox because
"You don't match [user's] gender and orientation preferences."
and
"You must be single."
I don't mind if people don't want to date bisexuals or people who identify as "available" rather than "single." But I don't think OKCupid should stick such people in my quiver.
(I assume the non-preference is "bisexual" because [user] declares that they are interested in women.)

OKCupid for casual conversation
Jan 5, 2009
I have been on OKCupid for a while but I recently started spending
more time here because my primary partner joined. Often when I am
reading profiles I find that I like something the person says and I
message them to let them know. I almost never get a reply
back.
I find this silence odd because this doesn't happen on other social networking forums I participate in.
Am I breaking an unwritten OKC rule that a private message means an expression of interest in pursuing a relationship? Are people thinking that if they message me back I will show up on their doorstep with a U-Haul and a herd of alpacas?

Do you believe that a major goal of educational systems should be to make people "better members of society"?I hate the way this is worded. I think a major goal of educational systems should be to educate people, and I think that sufficiently educated people are better members of society than undereducated people, in the sense of being able to contribute more and to contribute in ways that make them happy.
- Yes.
- No.
So in that sense the answer is yes.
But I discern an implication that "make people 'better members of society'" means to brainwash them somehow, and I don't think the system should do that. I think it should teach people to think for themselves.
So in that sense, the answer is no.

Do dreams ever motivate you to take actions in reality?Once my partner and I ordered some bookshelves and we decided to put them on the walls to the right and left of our bed. The night before the bookshelves were delivered, I had a dream about an earthquake causing the bookshelves to fall on the bed. I convinced my partner that the bookshelves should go elsewhere.
- Yes.
- No.
