I am ., ., and ..
My Self-Summary
- Born in one country (Italy)
- Grew up mostly in another (Cyprus - South side)
- Studied somewhere else (Lausanne, Switzerland)
- Have lived in an additional four on top of the three above
(Romania, Thailand, Egypt and now the U.K)
- My parents are not actually from any of them, I’ve never been to
my country of origin.
- Identity crisis? Nope.
- Recently moved to London, putting together a new life.
- Sunlight gives me energy like no other. In London, Red Bull does.
No wings though.
- Have an uncanny ability to injure myself impressively albeit
somewhat dumbly.
- Wine makes me sleep. Champagne wakes me back up.
- If no-one was at home, I’d sing in the shower.
- Have the envious skill of being able to make any pasta I cook
taste exactly the same, irrespective of the actual ingredients I
put into it.
- Am actually very laid-back, except with pretentious people, then
I give back as good as I get.
- If you say road-trip I’ll say yes, regardless of destination.
Unless it’s an Oatmeal factory or something. I take that
back.
- Love exploring new destinations. In Summer I make full use of the
beach and the bars. In winter, exploring more culturally distinct
and absorbing countries sounds like a plan.
- Am towards the left on the political scale. Let’s not elaborate
on that here though.
- What else would you like to know?
What I’m doing with my life
- Things most people tend to do at my age; spend money on things we
don’t need, try and augment our low interest savings accounts with
the leftovers, plan vacations that we never take with our friends
scattered around the world and dream of the days ahead!
- Just got promoted and moved to London. Before that, had been
travelling non-stop for the 2 years since I graduated from
University, meeting clients in a consulting role.
- What did I get promoted to? That’s actually highly confidential –
although not that interesting to anyone but our competition. Still,
they could be scouring through OKC profiles at work (like I seem to
be) and if I mention what I’m up to they might get overly
curious.
- Planning my next moves, making contacts and moving on up!
I’m really good at
- Keeping my gym’s bank account fiscally sound, regardless of my
actual attendance.
- Involving myself in random debates not necessarily anywhere
within the realm of my expertise.
- Throwing house parties once I get my own house. It’s coming with
the convertible and the beach.
- Finding myself in disastrous situations; a sudden war-zone,
outrunning a Tsunami and being in the capital of a country that
decided to throw a political revolution are a few that spring to
mind. There was also that time we had a knife pulled out on us for
being too contrasting in a slum of a major capital. Fun
times.
- Empathizing with someone’s thoughts / feelings. Even if they
don’t make any sense to me.
- Looking incredibly busy, but not actually being so. Unless I
actually am very busy, at which point everyone in the office and on
my MSN list will feel the sudden urge to spell out every detail of
their weekend to me.
- Finding hilarity in most sarcastic comments and looking curiously
puzzled when my friends burst with laughter at things like JackAss.
The first things people usually notice about me
- After a few weeks of knowing me and most likely after a weekend
involving irresponsible amounts of bevies, my new friend(s) will
inevitably ask me in grave concern what happened to my head on that
Fri/Sat night. They are referring to a couple of barely visible
stitches on my forehead I’ve had from an injury since childhood. I
can’t explain it.
- Ok that wasn't the first thing, but I haven't met me so I can't
be sure.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
MOVIES
Tend to forget the details of most blockbusters soon after seeing
them – works out quite well, unlimited replay value.
Some of note;
- Blood Diamond (Stirs both my travel and political
interests)
- Slumdog Millionaire (same reason as Blood Diamond, albeit with a
happier ending)
- 12 Angry Men (For the psychological aspect and court
excitement)
- The Dark Knight (pure dark drama / action)
- In Bruges (funny dark drama/ action)
- Wall-E (immaturity aside, it was hilarious and original)
- Sliding Doors (the fickleness of fate and fragility of life ..
sniff)
- Love Actually (for the sissy Xmas feel-good side in me)
- Plenty more…. I just couldn’t end with that last one
TV-SHOWS:
- The Apprentice (UK Version)
- The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Appeals to my liberal
side)
- Fawlty Towers (only recently been introduced to this, wow)
- Sitcoms: Spin City, Seinfeld, Frasier, Becker
MUSIC:
- Buy tracks over artists
- Individual Tunes over Genres
- Absolutely anything over Dave Mathews Band, the Spice Girls and
other equivalents in both categories.
FOOD:
- Bhutanese (surprise even to myself)
- Chinese (inc. Singaporean)
- Cypriot
- Indian
- Italian
- Middle-Eastern
- Thai
- And am open to much more. When in Rome, eat pizza.
BOOKS:
- Barack Obama (Dreams from My Father)
- Bill Bryson (Neither Here Nor There, Down Under, Notes from a
Small Island, The Lost Continent, Notes from a Big Country, Walk in
the Woods, Shakespeare, A Short History of Nearly Everything)
The six things I could never do without
- Airplanes and the tickets that put us on them.
- Reuters, A.P, Digg and any other means of keeping my unhealthy
interest in world media and global affairs in check.
- The dream of living by the sea and driving my future convertible
along the beach road with my friends under the sun - the top
naturally being down (the car’s roof that is).
- Music and as a result, my iPhone: that convertible will most
definitely have had an audio investment put into it too.
- Lots of not necessarily useful gadgets and impulse trinkets. I
have to force myself to use that bike, even when it’s pouring rain
and it would very likely cause somewhat severe discomfort.
- Have we reached six yet? I’m sure there’s plenty more but let’s
leave that till we know each other a little bit more.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
- Where it is my matching socks disappear to after coming out of
the washing machine.
- How to get my next promotion, pay increase and the ultimate
prize, that elusive convertible. Once I hit that milestone, I’ll
start thinking boat?
- Cyprus; Limassol in particular.
- What else I could be thinking about / doing.
- Everything I’d like to do before hitting the big three zero and
how to go about doing it.
- For now, what to write on my OKC page. How am I doing?
On a typical Friday night I am
Will see what London brings, but if I were with friends:
- Beach Parties (obviously, we’d need a beach first)
- Concerts
- Movies and Theatres
- Pubs and Clubs
- Comedy Nights
- Go-Karting
- A mass combo of all the above
- All cliché, unless anyone knows somewhere we can go white water
rafting on Friday evenings? Am very open to suggestion.
If I were only with my significant other:
- Can’t share my secrets just yet, though it would definitely
involve a lot less go-karting.
Never was such a thing as typical for the past few years really,
was always on the road, could have been anything from a casino
crawl in Las Vegas to an outdoor campfire in the Bhutanese
Mountains.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Anything more revealing than the fact that I enjoyed ‘Love
Actually’ will require a mutual exchange. You first.
