I am overeducated, cute, and curvy.

My Self-Summary

I'm a single, cute librarian from Madison, WI, quirky, good sense of humor, very little appreciation for team sports. I love to laugh. I'm down-to-earth (short too, but that's not the same thing) and I respect myself and others. Reform Jewish, but not limiting myself in terms of who I date. Love history, love music, love making things with my hands. Extremely allergic to cats.

I keep myself busy in life. I have a tendency to get lonely if I don't, though I do love a lazy day every so often. I'm generally really independent, but have recently realized that something...someone...is missing from my life. Yeah, I've always been a romantic, but it's not until recently that I actually decided to do anything about it.

Currently reading: Seeing Voices: a journey into the world of the deaf by Oliver Sacks. One-sentence review: Will someone please tell me why I like reading Oliver Sacks so much when I find him so insufferable as a person?

What I’m doing with my life

I'm a librarian and I looooove what I do. In spare time I am in the SCA, a medieval/renaissance re-creation organization, which I also love and which supplies me with many of my friends and cool crafty things to do with my hands.

I just bought my first house and am incredibly excited, but I'm going to need people to come visit me there or it will get lonely in my gilded cage...

I’m really good at

Kissing. Spelling. Anything textile-related. Answering reference questions. Customer service. Cooking without fear. Stretching languorously. Singing. Sightreading. Uh...I'm a safe driver. Would you like references from my employer? My mom?

Well, you can't have them. Try me out, you'll find out what I'm good at.

The first things people usually notice about me

If I had to guess: my eyes (and long black eyelashes), and my boingy hair.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: travel/food writing, historical fiction, non-fiction, the occasional science fiction/fantasy.

Movies: Recently I'm mostly into indie things, but will sometimes go for mainstream fantasy/drama/comedy. Over time I'm less up on what's currently in the theaters. Netflix is using way more of my money than I'm using their services. I really do like movies--I just never seem to think of watching them!

Music: Current alt-country/pop (The Decemberists, The Pinetop Seven, Shearwater, Okkervil River), choral music, medieval/renaissance music, SCA music, secret yen for the eighties stuff of my youth.

Food: I am a weird food afficionado. My weird food leanings are more "interesting Japanese candy" than "let's go eat raw sea urchins", though. For eating out, quality trumps variety. I enjoy Italian, Japanese, Mexican, Chinese, all kinds of Middle Eastern, Russian, and (if I'm in the mood for heavy sauces) French food. Won't turn down a good steak, either.

I would love it if you'd cook for me, but I'd also love to cook for you.

The six things I could never do without

Music. Books. My computer. My friends. Madison. Libraries.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

My work. (What can I say? I love it.) Also: liberal politics, libraries in general, my house, what I'm going to make next, men, and my friends.

On a typical Friday night I am

Either on my way to an SCA event out-of-town, or relaxing at home, or (very) occasionally at services at Temple.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I really, really don't want a guy who sleeps in frilly flannel nightgowns and calls himself Laura.

By this I am not trying to say a guy can't have a feminine side, or that he has to fall into masculine stereotypes. That's not at all what I believe. This is one of those rules that was created to address a very specific situation.

In general I don't believe in that sort of rule...but this one had to be made.

You should message me if

You're sick of dating women who couldn't come up with an original thought if their lives depended on it. You're uncomfortable with being sized up financially by women (I don't do that). You don't have cats (I have a major cat allergy). You're in the Madison area (or, well, not). You're between 28-46 and single. You don't smoke or do drugs, and your idea of a great time does not involve TV sports and massive amounts of alcohol. You care about people and think about the world around you. You're smart. You're generally independent but would also kind of like to meet the woman of your dreams. (Not that I'm necessarily her, but how will you know unless you check?)
