I am energetic, ambitious, and stronger than I look.
My Self-Summary
I need breakfast in the morning like some people need coffee.
I spend too much time working on my computer, and appreciate anyone
who gets me away from it.
My level of extroversion varies greatly by circumstance.
I like to talk about all the things you're not supposed to in
polite company, and am bored by those void of strong opinions.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm living in Silver Spring and working for the American Heart
Association in DC. My title is "Youth Mobilization Manager for the
Web"... I know, it sounds fake, but it's actually a very cool job.
:)
I love my work, but I work to live instead of the reverse. I try to
maintain a balanced mind, body, and spirit.
I’m really good at
having fun with food, choosing or selling wine, public speaking,
and writing when the occasion allows me to say what I'm
thinking.
.. I'd like to learn to
golf, to be a good
pool player, and to ride a
bike in the city without being
terrified. If you can teach me any of those things, you may have
yourself a date. ;)
The first things people usually notice about me
If the music moves me I'll get out of my seat. That's probably what
most people I've met in the last two years noticed about me first.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books:
Rainer Maria
Rilke's
Letters to a Young Poet
Barbara Ehrenreich's Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in
America
Lois Lowry's The Giver (it only gets better as you get older)
Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried
Aviva Jane Carlin's Jodie's Body
Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues
Theresa Rebeck's Sunday on the Rocks
Joseph Kesselring's Arsenic and Old Lace
Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
George Bernard Shaw's Saint Joan
Tom Robbins' Jitterbug Perfume
I'm currently midway through Dreyer's Chi Running, Vennells'
Reiki Mastery, and
Ruhlman's Ratio: Simple Codes...of Everyday
Cooking.
I'm jealous of people who can plow through books. I think my slight
obsession with words has me rereading rather than reading quickly.
I don't want to miss a thing.
Movies (Recommendations welcome!):
Dead
Poet's Society,
Closer, RENT, Tombstone, Gia, Romeo and
Juliet (both the new one and the old one with Olivia Hussey),
Pool Hall
Junkies,
Rounders,
Swingers,
Full Metal Jacket...
Kubrick is a sick
genius, What Women Want,
V for Vendetta,
Chocolate,
Paris Je'Taime,
Duplicity..
My music taste is so broad.. I've been working around music for the
last two years, and have been fortunate enough to see a ton of live
music. Lately I've been listening to a lot of
Brazilian Girls,
Bill Frisell,
John
Scofield,
Pink
Floyd, and
PJ
Harvey, and looots of bossa nova.. I might have to learn to
samba.

Life without music would be a sad, sad thing.
I love spicy food, garam masala, fresh produce, ginger root... I am
a bit of a health nut, but that doesn't mean I don't eat well and
I'm not afraid to cook with butter or heavy cream when the meal
calls for it.
The six things I could never do without
my
running
shoes,
mountains,
red wine,
black tea, great
bourbon, fresh produce. and the
internet. I know,
I don't follow directions.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
food, people, words, saving the world, attempting to be
eco-friendly, the run I ought to do if I haven't done it yet,
kissing.
If you have pretty lips and something smart is coming out of them,
I apologize if I ask you to repeat yourself. I'm a sucker for a set
of pretty lips.
On a typical Friday night I am
relaxing at home, sitting outside drinking wine or bourbon, or out
dancing somewhere in DC.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Foodgawker.com
is like porn to me.
You should message me if
..you're a
smart man
with lots of
ambition who knows how to set his work
aside to enjoy the rest of life.
..you're seeking a lady with a brain.
..you're reasonably mature.
..you aren't a SIF (Google it).
..you are confident enough to handle things head-on. I find passive
aggression exhausting.
..you love art of all kinds.
..you have a favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurant in DC (I don't
have many, yet... I tend to cook in rather than eat out, but that's
beginning to change)
..you love to cook. Or just to eat.. and savor.. with wine.
..you don't mind dressing up a little to go out sometimes (18th St
Lounge, the theatre..)
Definitely message me if you're a policy geek. Or a quantum physics
geek. Or a geek of any kind. If you love your work, and want to
teach me all about it, I'll probably want to listen.
I find that the people I connect best with are
driven both intellectually and
creatively. I
seek the company of those I think I can
learn from.
An addendum: If you think we will be more compatible as friends
than lovers, but you think we'd have a bad ass time together, I
won't be offended in the slightest. Let's hang out! If you are a
self-professed girly-man with many similar interests, you probably
fall into that category. So let's hang out, but.. not make out.
