My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
On the surface, I've got to admit that I fit a number of cliches. I'm a generation X'er who hasn't quite figured out where financial stability and rewarding work meet. I spend a lot of time in my head but enjoy the chance to get away for a while. I've made my mistakes and even had a few victories along the way.

I really am a massive nerd, but hopefully in an endearing way.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I've got a Master's degree that I don't use, but I'm still proud of.

Right now I'm working on-and-off for an educational company. I should probably admit that I'm in a transitional phase in life right now and that I'm not entirely sure what will come next. Whatever it is, I'm optimistic that life can and will surprise me.

Like a wise man once said "you met me at a very strange time in my life." If only I could get skyscrapers to actually blow up behind me to underscore my point... (and if you got the reference, we're already friends).

I also review dvds and occasionally books or games for an old friend's website--
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I'm grateful for a good memory and a general quickness in learning new things.

I can get into a conversation about quantum physics as easily and passionately as one about the universal injustice that Community will not reach #sixseasonsandamovie.

I have some latent artistic ability. I will unlock it one day and then... well, I don't know, but I expect it'll be interesting.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm tall and quiet. Some people like that... especially people with high shelves and people who like to talk.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Favorites never come out right, so here's what I'm doing right now...

Reading: I finally finished "A Song of Ice and Fire" in its entirety, so for the next few years I will be one of those annoying people who watch "Game of Thrones" and says "Yeah, but in the books it goes down like this..." I've also been catching up on Alan Moore's "Miracleman" series. I gravitate towards sci-fi/fantasy/horror, but enjoy a good literary diversion or nonfiction book when I find one.

Watching: I'm pretty much a movie junkie. I try to keep up on what's coming out and make good use of my Netflix subscription. I'll try anything from blockbuster to documentary and have a series weakness for a good serialized TV drama.

Listening: Admittedly my musical tastes solidified around mid-'90s alternative, though I've been trying to broaden it lately. I have a special fondness for a great lyricist.

Playing: I do like the video games. As with most my entertainment tastes, I tend towards a great story over online competition - in other words I'm a hard sell without a great single player campaign.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My family... My pocketknife/bottle opener (yes, as a matter of fact, it has saved my life before)... DVD/Blu-Ray player... Libraries... My glasses (I find contacts profoundly uncomfortable)... Ellipses...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
An awful lot of things that probably don't bear thinking about. And yet I do anyway, for I am an American and never did learn the rules to thinkin'...
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I tend to stay in most nights, but that's something I'm trying to change. Nothing beats going down to the pub for a pint with some friends. Now if I can just find the right pub...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Did you ever see "The 40 Year Old Virgin"? No, it's not completely accurate, but there are aspects to the character that strike a little too close to home sometime...

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You enjoy a great craft beer and a good conversation.

You believe you can learn a lot about a person by looking at their bookshelf (sadly the rise of e-books has made this a mit more difficult).

You love going to movies, plays, or binging on a new Netflix

R+L = J makes your nod your head.

Even if it's not necessarily your thing, nothing makes you happier than seeing someone really geek out about whatever you're into.

You understand the ineffable joy of beating a tough boss fight.

You're okay with someone who can have a tough time around new people and major social situations but is willing to make the effort.

You have been or WILL SOMEDAY go to Comic-con (or are at least willing to entertain my need to make the pilgrimage some day).
