My self-summary
On the surface, I've got to admit that I fit a number of cliches. I'm a generation X'er who hasn't quite figured out where financial stability and rewarding work meet. I'm an intellectual who can be incredibly clueless when it comes to the finer social graces. I've made my mistakes and even had a few victories along the way.

I am a unique thinker, sometimes clever, and often shy
What I’m doing with my life
I've got a Master's degree that I don't use, but I'm still proud of.

Unfortunately, the office I worked in as a Closed Captioner was closed at the end of last year. I'm currently doing some freelance and temp work to get by while looking for a new permanent position and contemplating going back to school yet again.

Like a wise man once said "you met me at a very strange time in my life." If only I could get skyscrapers to actually blow up behind me to underscore my point... (and if you got the reference, we're already friends).

I also review dvds and occasionally books or games for an old friend's website--
I’m really good at
I'm one of those people who can't let an idea lie... When something catches my interest, I want to learn all about it and came at through as many angles and perspectives as I can. Whether it's a lasting, life-changing revelation or a 30-second whimsy, I can find something unique and interesting in just about anything. I'm always coming up with new theories about whatever random bit happens by...
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm tall and quiet. Some people like that... especially people with high shelves and people who like to talk.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Favorites never come out right, so here's what I'm doing right now...

Reading: Just finished a pretty decent debut novel titled "The Night Gwen Stacy Died," Rereading Grant Morrison's mind-bending "The Invisibles," and getting close to finishing the 300-issue indie comic "Cerebus." I also just picked up Chuck Klosterman's latest "I Wear the Black Hat" - I'd forgotten how much I love an insightful author that really delves into the ways pop culture shapes our perception of reality.

Watching: I'm pretty much a movie junkie. In addition to whatever I'm watching for review, I try to catch something new when I can. Joss Whedon's version of "Much Ado About Nothing" recently came and went from a local theater before I could see it. I am still annoyed by this. I hope Netflix comes to the rescue soon.

Listening: I've splurged on a couple months of a pay internet radio service so I've been broadening my horizons a bit. I'm not the most musically inclined, so this has been kinda cool.

Playing: I do like the video games. I finally picked up the pack-in copy of Skyrim that came with my Xbox360. Given the cost of new games, I'm usually a few months (sometimes years) behind.
The six things I could never do without
My family... My pocketknife/bottle opener (yes, as a matter of fact, it has saved my life before)... DVD/Blu-Ray player... Libraries... My glasses (I find contacts profoundly uncomfortable)... Ellipses...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
An awful lot of things that probably don't bear thinking about. And yet I do anyway, for I am an American and never did learn the rules to thinkin'...
On a typical Friday night I am
By nature I'm a bit of a homebody, but that doesn't mean I'm adverse to a drink down the pub, a show, a movie, or anything else that might come my way.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm extremely introverted and shy, and as a result can be pretty clumsy and awkward when I'm trying to be sociable. Once you get past that, I think you'll like what you'll find.

Also, I freakin' hate text speech. I know it's a common nit to pick, but if you take the time to write things out the proper way, it goes a long, long way with me.

You should message me if
If the line "no, seriously, you should see the size of my library" gets you kinda hot...

If you want to check out local theater or arts events...

If the idea of a good beer and a conversation about this, that, or the other appeals to you...
