My self-summary
I've accomplished a lot of things in my life. I've interviewed Eldridge Cleaver and Stephanie Coontz. I've read more than 50 books by Noam Chomsky. My Geeks Who Drink team is a formidable contender at Bumsted's on Thursday nights. And I got the highest score in the Abortion Access Network of Arizona's 2013 Bowl-A-Thon. But one thing I haven't accomplished is finding that special someone.

Anyway, now that I have that deliberately terrible opening out of the way, what else can I say about myself? I'm a vegetarian, mostly for environmental reasons. I'm introverted but not the homebody type. I will admit, though, that sometimes volunteerism, rather than a full social life, is what gets me out of the house. I do some stuff for a books-to-prisoners program.
What I’m doing with my life
My paid work is doing a variety of administrative things at the university. I would rather be a paid activist or something, but I guess it's good that I have a grown-up job like this one.
I’m really good at
I'm good at repeatedly mistyping passwords because I'm in a hurry, ultimately taking more time to retype them than I would have spent simply typing them at a normal speed and getting it right the first time.

Several friends have told me that I should compete in a Scrabble tournament. But I've read books by competitive Scrabble players, and I just don't think I'm cut out for the level of commitment they put into it. I'd like to do other things with my free time than memorize word lists and do anagramming exercises. Sometimes physical exercise is good. I haven't hiked in a while.

I've also been told I write well. I don't really do anything important with that skill, though. I write blog posts for a reproductive rights organization. I guess that's something.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm an introvert, so most of the time I'm not that concerned about it.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm not good at picking favorite books, but my favorite authors are Laila Halaby, Michael Muhammad Knight, Arundhati Roy, David Mura, Tim Wise, Winona LaDuke, Michael Parenti, Amy Goodman, Chris Hedges, Vandana Shiva, Noam Chomsky, Greg Palast, Naomi Klein, Bruce Cumings, Azadeh Moaveni, Linda McQuaig, and Howard Zinn. I don't read a lot of fiction, because I figure a lot of the good novels get turned into movies anyway (not that the movies always do them justice).

I almost never watch television. The movies I watch are not nearly as brainy as the books I read (although I do like good documentaries from time to time). I really like movie adaptations of comic books, as well as any science-fiction movies that, even if they're full of plot holes, are still enjoyable for their special effects. Outside of those two genres, some of my favorite movies have been Milk, The Taqwacores, God Bless America, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, The Business of Fancydancing, Rushmore, Midnight in Paris, Stranger Than Fiction, Obvious Child, and Pump Up the Volume.

My musical tastes go in and out of phases, but some of my usual favorites are The Dandy Warhols, Solex, Gomez, The Olivia Tremor Control, Blue Scholars, Princess Chelsea, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Ratatat, Saul Williams, The Lushlife Project, Tame Impala, Lemon Jelly, Public Enemy, Macklemore, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, Amon Tobin, Bonobo, Röyksopp, The Submarines, and Ana Tijoux.

As for food, my favorite cuisines are Southwestern, Indian, Thai, Ethiopian, and Middle Eastern. Honorable mention goes to kosher style.
The six things I could never do without
Coffee, coffee houses, libraries, bookstores, spicy foods, and Scrabble.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I wish Michael Muhammad Knight would write another book soon.
On a typical Friday night I am
Well, on Thursday nights I do Geeks Who Drink, so if I end up having a dull Friday night I'm okay with that.

Actually, now that there's that Food Fest on Friday nights on 4th Avenue, that might become my Friday night routine. (There was a lot of alliteration in that sentence--almost too much, I think.)
