My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I've accomplished a lot of things in my life. I've interviewed Eldridge Cleaver and Stephanie Coontz. I've blogged stuff that's been retweeted by a congressman and a state representative. I got the highest score in the Abortion Access Network of Arizona's 2013 Bowl-A-Thon, and my Geeks Who Drink team is a formidable contender at Bumsted's on Thursday nights. But one thing I haven't accomplished is finding that special someone.

Anyway, now that I have that deliberately terrible opening out of the way, what else can I say about myself? I'm a vegetarian, primarily for environmental reasons. I'm introverted but not the homebody type. I will admit, though, that sometimes volunteerism, rather than a full social life, is what gets me out of the house. I do some stuff for a books-to-prisoners program.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
My paid work is doing some administrative things at the university--a sufficiently weird enough variety to keep me from getting bored.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I'm good at taking bad iPhone photos.

Several friends have told me that I should compete in a Scrabble tournament. But I've read books by competitive Scrabble players, and I just don't think I'm cut out for the level of commitment they put into it. I'd like to do other things with my free time besides memorize word lists and do anagramming exercises. Also, have you seen what Nigel Richards, Joel Wapnick, and some of those other tournament winners look like? Damn. What if their style rubbed off on me?

I've also been told I write well. I write for a reproductive rights blog, among other crap.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm an introvert, so most of the time I'm not that concerned about it.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
I'm not good at picking favorite books, but my favorite authors are Laila Halaby, Michael Muhammad Knight, Arundhati Roy, David Mura, Tim Wise, Winona LaDuke, Michael Parenti, Amy Goodman, Chris Hedges, Vandana Shiva, Noam Chomsky, Greg Palast, Naomi Klein, Bruce Cumings, Azadeh Moaveni, Linda McQuaig, and Howard Zinn. I don't read a lot of fiction, because I figure a lot of the good novels get turned into movies anyway.

I almost never watch television. The movies I watch are not nearly as brainy as the books I read (although I do like good documentaries from time to time). I really like movie adaptations of comic books, as well as any science-fiction movies that, even if they're full of plot holes, are still enjoyable for their special effects. Outside of those two genres, some of my favorite movies have been Milk, The Taqwacores, God Bless America, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, The Business of Fancydancing, Rushmore, Midnight in Paris, Stranger Than Fiction, Obvious Child, and Pump Up the Volume.

My musical favorites are The Dandy Warhols, Solex, Gomez, The Submarines, Blue Scholars, Princess Chelsea, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Ratatat, Saul Williams, The Lushlife Project, Tame Impala, Lemon Jelly, Public Enemy, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, Amon Tobin, Bonobo, Röyksopp, and Ana Tijoux--and, locally, Adara Rae & The Homewreckers, Mik (Garrison) & The Funky Bunch, Leila Lopez, Tigel Pinto, SOCK!FIGHT, and, more than likely, a few others I'm forgetting.

As for food, my favorite cuisines are Southwestern, Indian, Thai, Ethiopian, kosher style, Middle Eastern, and Korean-Mexican fusion (Korean tacos and whatnot).
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Coffee, coffee houses, libraries, bookstores, spicy foods, and Scrabble.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Coffee, coffee houses, libraries, bookstores, spicy foods, and Scrabble.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
The Food Fest on 4th Avenue makes for a good default outing if nothing else is going on--or maybe just unwinding with a book at Epic Café or something.
