My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hello -- my name is Denys

I am originally from Detroit, moved to Pittsburgh in 2009 for my current job; trying to meet someone here as I am shy & introverted and my co-workers -- who all have their own families -- don't know anyone good for me who's single.

I was a smart-alec a$$hole know-it-all until college so I don't have many friends from those days, and those that do remain I guess keep some distance in case I regress ... as a result, though I'm proud of my accomplishments, I don't publicize them much as I don't want to fall back into that pattern and I also don't want people to know me only as "the smart guy" -- I'm loyal and have a good memory so if you matter to me and I know you're dealing with something or have something important going-on in your life, at some point I'm going to specifically ask how that is going

I have a dry sense of humor that relies on subtleties, quoting movie lines and/or song lyrics, puns, irony, and/or double entendres.

If I disagree with someone about something, I consciously try to not make it personal -- easiest way to lose my respect for you is to start calling me names & making it personal

My job is in software testing.

In my free time I have many interests: classic cars (own 2), small handyman projects, reading, "being aware" of what's going-on with the hometown teams (save the Pistons), watching auto racing (whether in person or on TV), cycling, hiking, taking a walk in North Park, bluegrass, Southern Rock bands, or just sitting outside ... summer weekends can find me doing 3 or more of those things, as well as laundry and ironing.

I think a good woman for me is ...
- more extroverted than me
- comfortable in her own skin and knows who she is
- smarter than me but isn't condescending about it
- open-minded enough to at least try some of the interests she doesn't share with me (same as I'll be in the same situation) In a nutshell, a woman outside of family, work, and far-flung friends that I enjoy talking to and she the same with me ... and the list above isn't "all or or nothing" either
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
By day, writing test procedures at Westinghouse -- I occasionally get a message from women in the Far East, I think it has to do with I mentioned my employer -- and by night, relaxing or researching something with the car or (see above)
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
- subtle humor
- natural curiosity
- planning trips
- being flexible
- sudoku
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I look young for my age (though not many good photos of me because I have a talent of shutting my eyes right before the shutter shuts/image snapped), quiet, shy, sense of humor
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
I don't read books that often anymore, newspaper & magazines seem to be my fill at the moment ... but my favorite books were written by Dickens, Twain, Heinlein, or Philip K. Dick

Empire Records, Rocknrolla, Hopscotch, Interstate 60, Le Mans, and Super Troopers ... haven't heard of one, a few, or all? That's ok, something for us to discuss!

rock, country (banjos are cool!), polka (accordions are cool!), some classical ... a bit eclectic, whatever fits my mood

I like to grill, otherwise go for easy -- yet balanced -- recipes. I'm semi-adventurous for new foods, prefer someone there to interpret what I'm seeing on the menu
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
- a periodic Doritos fix
- ability to remember small details that will make you melt at the right time
- timer in the kitchen
... and still deciding on the other 3
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
- too much about work and what I "need to get done," either at work or at home
- whether self-declared "open-minded" individuals realize the irony when they themselves exhibit close-minded behavior
- why didn't she reply back?
- why is she wearing sunglasses in all of her photos?
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
relaxing ... I typically use Friday nights to recharge a bit after the week, so if at work we've had a Happy Hour I'm coming home a bit later than usual and then resting or making preps for any "big" things I want to do during the weekend
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
... at the moment? I avoid walking on any grates in sidewalks or curbs, be they for sewers, ventilation, or what-have-you ... just superstitious that way
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
I think a good woman for me is either of equal intelligence or smarter than me -- *but* doesn't lord it over me -- and is self-confident.

... but please, I've written quite a bit about myself here and I put some time into messages I write, I'd appreciate if you could write more than "Hi! How are you?" (or some variation thereof) if you send me an introductory message
