What I’m doing with my life
I manage the Research and Development department of a small electronics firm in Troy, NY. I put in far too many hours and would love for you to entice me to spend less time working and more playing.

I got to this position via a circuitous route that began as an archaeologist then led me into doing environmental impact statements and permit applications, which then led me to years as a technical writer before finding myself in a business development position.

When not working, I immerse myself in photography, which I use as a way to stay in touch with my creative self. I belong to several photographic groups and try to stay active with them all. I post my photographic works online in a daily photoblog at http://forgingahead.net and have been showing my work in local shows for about 3 years.

The first things people usually notice about me
I'd really like to know the answer to this question. Often, I suppose, it would be the camera around my neck. Otherwise, probably my eyes. But I can't remember asking anyone that question before.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Reading has played a major role in my life. I once surrounded myself with my books, like Midas with his gold. But a few years ago I shed most of my belongings and the books went. Funny how little I have missed them. I still have a few special books (like my atlases) but have grown to rely on libraries, used book stores, and increasingly e-books. I enjoy a number of female authors like Toni Morrison, Barbara Kingsolver, Amy Tan, Alice Hoffman, and the like.

I enjoy going to movies a lot and try to get to the Spectrum in Albany as often as possible to see a few of the movies making the rounds. It's hard to specify a specific set of movies I like the most though without question my all time favorite movie is Parenthood with Steve Martin. Another good one in kind of old, but really worth finding, is The Gods Must be Crazy.

I don't listen to music a lot. But when I do, my tastes run to classic rock, blues, and some contemporary rock artists. I enjoy almost anything in the background of my life.

On a typical Friday night I am
Most Fridays you'll find me enjoying the art scene - at First Fridays in Albany, Art Night in Schenectady, and Troy Night Out (last Friday of the month). However, as much as I enjoy being social, I truly enjoy staying in, cooking dinner, watching a movie, or working on my photography on the computer.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Seems a lot of people have a problem with this question. I see it as pretty straightforward. Given that this is a public site, what is the MOST private thing you're will to admit? That could be something pretty silly, like...oh, let's say, "I have a weakness for Cheese Doodles," or it could be more revealing. The point seems to me to be about how you draw boundaries, what are the limits of what you will share about yourself. That says a lot about who you are.

I used to share too much here. And drew back. Now the most I am wiling to admit is:

I have a weakness for cheese doodles.
