My self-summary Propose an edit

"If you insist on leaving your fate to the gods, then the gods will repay your weakness by having a grin or two at your expense. Should you fail to pilot your own ship, don't be surprised at what inappropriate port you will find yourself docked." - Jitterbug Perfume, Tom Robbins

I've learned to enjoy the little things when they're happy and ignore them when they're not.

I'm a traveler. I seek out new cultures and learn from them, admire them, soak up the knowledge I can get from them. I'm never satisfied in one place for too long, without a side trip somewhere else.

I enjoy volunteering. I try to do what I can to help people who need it. I have found that the people you meet and the stories you hear can be life-altering. We should all be humbled with what the world has given us, because there is always someone worse off than you. So instead of envying those better off, be thankful for what you have and help those who don't have it quite as good as you do. In the end you, and the world will get more out of it. Love is so much better than Hate.

I'm a lover, not a fighter. But I grew up around the military my entire life, so I wholeheartedly support our troops. At its core, the military was founded on the beliefs of defense, protection and altruism. And although there have been certain presidents that have skewed that core, ultimately our soldiers protect liberty and help those less fortunate. I may not believe in our president, or agree with his orders, but I believe in our soldiers and hope for their safety every time I have to say goodbye to them. "We're not against the soldiers, we're against the war." - The 60's.

I am the perpetual student. I will always crave knowledge, will always take class, even when that class isn't the traditional kind with four walls and a ceiling. If you look around you, life can be the biggest lesson of all. And the biggest adventure.

I'm spiritual, but not religious. I simply cannot buy wholeheartedly into organized religion as it was created and is maintained by humanity, and humanity is intrinsically fallible. I believe. But I don't believe any one religion has it right, particularly when they can judge so swiftly. I don't believe that the being who created all of us, would condemn and judge any of us for being what that being created us to be.

So, my friends, I suppose I'm just a girl who likes to dance, love, flirt, read, write, sleep, dream, help, laugh, search, explore, scream, support, sing, shake, jump, bounce, learn, watch, listen, lust, believe, hope, tremble, and feel.

What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit

Trying to enjoy the little things:

The some what less stressful existence that comes along with being finished with my degree in English Lit. Now I can read all of those books for fun, instead of on a deadline.

Rocking out and dancing around my room while no one's watching.

Spending an entire weekend in bed watching movies, on the rare occasion I have the entire weekend off, that is.

Getting things done with Americorps NCCC. Things like rebuilding the lower ninth ward of New Orleans, helping protect Cocoa Beach's less fortunate against hurricanes, working with kids in Vermont, and telling Gustav and Ike that I'm not afraid of them.

Spending time with my ameri-friends at the club, restaurants, movies and bowling alley.

Trying out new recipes and perfecting old ones.

Traveling the continent, one country at a time.

Laughing so hard my stomach hurts.

Filling my brain with useless but fun trivia at wikipedia.org.

Getting reacquainted with old passions like poetry and greek mythology.

Trying to figure out what my next step in life is now that my two years of service are coming to an end.

Sleeping and dreaming as much as I can.

I'm really good at Propose an edit

Cuddling. Laughing. Wearing Green. Planning traveling adventures. Remembering where that obscure movie quote came from. Helping people. Acting like a complete geek around friends. Looking at a bunch of different recipes and coming up with my own delicious version of it. Being a giving person, as a friend, a girlfriend and a lover. Being there for my friends when they need me.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit

Why is she wearing the same thing as everyone else? (If I'm in uniform) otherwise, I suppose it would be my voice. Though I like to hope I'm loud in a more commanding way than obnoxious way.

I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit

Castles in Ireland. The color pink. The sadness of trains standing in the rain. Claddagh. The myth of Echo and Narcissus. Talking about starting a revolution. La vie boheme. National Service. Perfume made from beets and jasmine to hide Pan's pungent odor. The touch of naked skin while cuddling under the covers. Awesomely bad 80's music. Why if an entire nation can come together to rebuild a city, a government can't come to their senses and fix the levees. The question game. When will it be my turn? Recipes. Where I went wrong about something and how to fix it. Where I went right about something and how I can repeat it. Thinking.

On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit

In Lake Charles watching movies. At the Sandbar in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Dancing at Cafe Negril on Frenchman in New Orleans. At the Vous in Maryland having a beer and playing shuffleboard. In my cabin in New Hampshire staying warm. Headed to Bangor to see friends in Maine. In Colorado visiting my old collegiate stomping grounds. In Germany spending time with the fam. There is no such thing as a typical night because of the fluidity of life. But wherever I am and whatever I am doing, I will certainly be enjoying it.
