I am loquacious, flirtatious, and audacious.
My Self-Summary
**So, I've had this account for a long while now and it seems my
profile has grown into the first 5 or so dates . . . every time I
read my profile there's always something more I want to add.
Profile edits are greatly appreciated. I would also like to preface
that I am horrible with grammar.**
My name is AndyMike. I just moved to Los Angeles, CA from Austin,
TX on 2 August 2008 with my little 97
Camaro. Goodbye Texas, hello Southern
California beaches!
I'm an only child, 1.5 generation full-blooded 100% USDA Filipino
American, good ol' Southern gentleman (Texas) with a good heart,
passionate about life, chill when need, always sincere, spontaneous
but not reckless, goal oriented, indecisive but to-the-point,
non-profit yuppie who still wants to earn money. I enjoy running
5ks and 10ks and hiking SoCal's amazing canyons. I've been
sky diving
once and cannot wait to do it again. In 2004, I weighed 215lbs. I
enjoy Bravo's reality/competition shows (even though I don't have
cable anymore, only a DVD player). If I could eat one type of
cuisine for the rest of my life, it would be Italian.
I graduated with a BA in
Sociology and a minor in Business from
the
University of Texas at
Austin in 2007. I studied Italian for 4 semesters. I worked
non-profit for about a year and a half as an Account Manager for
United Way. I would like to get a Master's in Public Affairs and/or
Master's in Business Administration from a Univ. of California
school (just not sure where . . . plus, I haven't taken the GRE or
GMAT yet), but I'm not 100% sure if it's in my future.
Uncommon for most gay guys, I love college football . . . but it
could be because of my alma mater, GO HORNS! Every fall, I'm glued
to the television, drinking
Shiner Bock or
Dos XX, screaming and jumping.
I love all kinds of music. There really isn't a genre I cannot
stand . . . just certain "artists."
I like to eat all kinds of food. I enjoy pleasing my palate and
trying new-to-me things. I love flavors and spices that keeps me
single . . . onion, garlic, cheese, milk, fish.
I enjoy curling up on the couch with a movie on.
I cannot live without red wine (I love Chilean Merlot, Spanish
Tempranilloss, Argentinean Malbecs and all sorts of Italian wines)
and Jack Daniel's.
What I’m doing with my life
studying for the GRE/GMAT . . . (I would like to study Public
Policy/Affairs and/or Business).
To make ends meet, I'm a server at the "original"
Cheesecake Factory in
Beverly Hills. I am still trying to work in the non-profit sector
(which is what I have been doing for the past year in ATX), but the
economy is tough right now, and even harder for non-profits in
California. Also, I am a back-up restaurant accountant for the LA
region.
I sing with the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles as a high Tenor 1.
I love to sing and dance on stage. My brothers in the chorus are a
talented group of men.
I am still settling in Los Angeles. There is so much to experience
in SoCal that is easy to feel lost. I don't have the solid group of
friend in LA that I had back in the ATX. So what I am trying to say
is that I am looking for friends to enjoy living and thriving in LA
(dining, wining, hiking, exploring, farmer's market attending,
cooking, movie watching, people watching, ::insert gerund:: )
I’m really good at
making people happy. When you're an only child, you're either
really good at making yourself happy or making others happy. I
think I'm great at making people happy (entertaining, hospitality,
peer mediation, customer service, cooking, bartending, etc).
I am a great listener and mediator. In college I was an Orientation
Advisor, Peer Advisor, and an HIV Counselor, so I have some great
mediation and mentor training.
The first things people usually notice about me
is the way I interact with others, the way I carry myself, my
personality and my smile! I smile A LOT!
When people I know online meet me for the first time, they always
comment on how refreshing it is to meet a genuine guy in LA. I know
many people play "games" out here . . . I guess I'm too impatient
for their bullshit.
If you knew me anytime between 1991 - 2005, you would notice how
much weight I've lost . . . really . . . it was a lot (over 75
lbs.)
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
a) Last year, I was hooked to a series called
A Song of Ice and
Fire by: George R.R. Martin. I read the first 4 books in a
matter of a few months. I never read much for leisure growing-up,
except what was on the syllabus. Besides the stuff I read in
college, here are the memorable reads from high school: "The
Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorn, "Siddhartha" by Heman Hesse,
"The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brian. A book my cousin have me
when I graduated high school is a novel in verse, "The Golden Gate"
by Vikram Seth.
b) This list gets longer and longer. Here's what I can think of
right now: Adventureland, Hors de Prix "Priceless", Night on Earth,
Stranger than Fiction, Memoirs of a Geisha, Layer Cake, Babel,
L'Ultimo Baccio, Prime, Little Miss Sunshine, Closer, The Dreamers,

Actually, An American Tail, Land Before Time, Ferris Beulers Day
Off, Lost In Translation, 28 Days Later.
c) Music is an auditory artists' expression of emotions and moods .
. . at least for me. In this list, you will find a diverse
repertoire of artist that can only be understood with the previous
statement: Alternative (Indie 103.1, sadly only online now), NPR
(KCRW in LA), Easy (KGSR in ATX), The Faint, The Notwist, Okkervil
River, Belle and Sebastian, The Decemberists, The Killers, The
Kills, Blonde Redhead, The Mountain Goats, The Ting Tings, The Yeah
Yeah Yeahs, Metric, The Racounteurs, The Arctic Monkeys, The Arcane

Stefani, Nora Jones, Kelly Clarkson, Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out
Boy, Angels and Airwaves, Spoon, Paolo Nutini, Regina Spektor,
Dixie Chicks, Alicia Keys, Ida Maria
d) OMG ITALIAN! I didn't study the language for 2 years at UT
because I thought it sounded pretty. THE FOOD, THE WINE, THE MEN!
Viva Italia! But seriously . . . I eat everything (pretty much). I
love spices that keep me single (garlic, onions, mint, rosemary,
bay leaves, various curries, etc).
Appendix) I've have been without a DVR/Cable for over a year now
and it feels good. Yeah, at times I miss watching Food Network,
Bravo and Logo . . . but it's saving me time and money. I recently
bought a digital converter box and am now hooked to the new Melrose
Place, Modern Family and Glee (via hulu.com, I refuse to support
Fox). Oh, and reruns of Friends and Family Guy.
The six things I could never do without
1)Music
2)College Football
3)Laptop/Internet/Facebook
4)Cell
5)NPR/KCRW
6)Food/Wine
I spend a lot of time thinking about
why the hell I had to finish college and enter the workforce in
this economy.
changes in Social and Economic Policies through the effects of
Globalization -- the rise of China, the expansion of the EU, the
fall of America.
the Development of the City of Austin/the MSA (Metropolitan
Statistical Area) of Austin and its effects on the marginalized
communities (especially the East Side) that keeps Austin
thriving.
philosophies on human thought, existence and sociability.
global warming, receding glaciers, rising water levels, severe
weather.
social identities and the different ways they are
constructed.
the social construction of gender and sexual identities in a
post-industrial, consumer-driven capitalistic era.
the progression of the European identity via the European Union.
On a typical Friday night I am
enjoying life. Depending on my mood: watching a movie, cooking from
home, hanging out with family/friends, walking along the beach,
watching a live performance, sharing a bottle of wine at the
Hollywood Bowl, dancing at a club, drinks and conversation at a
bar/cafe, playing World of Warcraft (don't judge . . . I see you
staring).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
that "when I think about you, I touch myself." (corny)
Even though I am a singer (a trained high Tenor 1), I smoked for 5
1/2 years. I've pretty much kicked the habit, but on occasion, I'll
smoke when I'm drunk and with my old college buddies.
I'm open source, meaning that I share everything and anything about
me to almost anyone AND as people naturally talk about others (with
the discourse revolving around me), they may alter me based on
their perception of me. Let's be honest, when we talk about people
it's never a CTRL + C / CTRL + V kinda of world . . . everything
gets altered along the way.
I grind my teeth in my sleep.
I have eczema, so I tend to be itchy.
I grew up a "fat kid" and weighed 215 lbs in 2004, so I have really
bad body image issues (and it doesn't help being Filipino ).
I struggle with being a hopeless-romantic and the man I want to
be.
I have given more bouquet of flowers to guys than have received and
I usually open the car door for the other guy on a date (if I'm
driving).
I want to be a father some day (like in my late 30s or early 40s)
and will probably adopt.
I still have the teddy bear I got when I was 10 years old, named
Brownie, lying on my bed (though I usually don't sleep with him
because he tends to be on the floor when I wake-up).
My heart melts when someone surprises me with a gift at
non-celebratory occasions.
I'm addicted to reading "missed connections" on craiglist! Some
crack me up and others creep me out.
You should message me if
you think we'd click.
you DON'T listen to Kiss FM.
you like guys.
you don't have any expectations other than a reply.
you understand that "fear is the dark room where all negatives are
developed."
you have any edits or suggestions in regard to my profile.
you are a KCRW subscriber.
you enjoy hiking/running.
