My self-summary
The first thing you'll probably notice about me is my smile. I'm funny. As in - I make people laugh, not funny as in peculiar. At least, that's the hope...

If I were writing to you - then the first thing you'd probably notice would be how nice my grammar is - which is unfortunate (since no-one ever seems to appreciate this!).

I have a lot of interests - from art, architecture, history, music, reading, travel through to being passionate about baseball, and watching movies and TV. I also listen to a lot of NPR. I like being intellectually stimulated - but also appreciate down time and simply relaxing.

I'm looking for someone to share my interests with, and share someone else's. Really - I'm looking to share my life with someone who's passionate about life, intelligent, funny and honest.
What I’m doing with my life
I did a PhD in neuroscience after my undergrad - both in the UK (Oxford and Cambridge). I took a year out to travel the world (well, the ex-Soviet part of it), joined a young start-up company which I ended up moving to the US to head up. After growing the company to 75 people here in Cambridge, I left to pursue a career in architecture.
I’m really good at
Trivia, feeding my pet cats (they're still alive), not feeding my pet plants (they're all dead), cooking fish, riding a bike, finding coffee shops, traveling, taking a long time to decide over menus, dyeing my hair grey...
The first things people usually notice about me
My accent. I grew up in the UK. (I'm now a US citizenship - but really don't sound like one!)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books - The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle (and every other book by Haruki Murakami), Brothers Karamazov, The Kindness of Women (JG Ballard), Chuck Palahniuk, Thomas Hardy, any Henning Mankell, Brave New World, Master and Margarita, Devil in the White City, David Mitchell, The Virgin Suicides, Where Angels Fear to Tread, The Beach, The Castle, Into Thin Air, Moneyball, Tad Williams, The Bonfire of the Vanities. Magazines - subscribe to The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and The Architectural Digest.

Movies - Sleuth, Magnolia, Manhattan, Koyaanisqatchi, The Lives of Others, Run Lola Run.

Artists - JW Waterhouse, Burne-Jones, Manet, Sargent, Hopper, Mondrian, Brancusi,

Font - Frutiger.

Music - The Smiths, REM, B52s, Radiohead, Belle and Sebastian, Nirvana, Eilen Jewell, Franz Ferdinand, Gomez, Francoise Hardy, James, Joni Mitchell, Morrissey, Muse, Smashing Pumpkins, They Might Be Giants, Philip Glass, Benjamin Britten, Shostakovich.

Radio - I listen to a lot of NPR, especially This American Life, The Moth Radio Hour, Wait wait and Car Talk (can only take about 10 mins of Tom Ashbrook though!).

TV - Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld, Big Bang Theory, Mad Men, Archer, Fawlty Towers, Modern Family. Baseball.

Food - cheese, fish, beer and wine.
The six things I could never do without
coffee, passport, books, humor, my glasses, and cheese
I spend a lot of time thinking about
what to read next...(any ideas?)
On a typical Friday night I am
Not sure I have a typical Friday night...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm deathly afraid of spiders. If they're long, and thin and look like snakes, that's ok - but otherwise not so much. To be clear - I will not be able to clear baths or showers of arachnid intruders.
