My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I am from Atlanta, GA, so I guess you can call me the classic southern gentleman. My parents were New Yorkers, so I have a little of the Northern vibe. Overall, I'm just another man trying to find his place in this monster of a world we live in.

Reason for being on here: If you try talking to a girl at a bar, she thinks you are a creep trying to sleep with her. If you make a polite comment towards a girl in the grocery store or walking in the park, you are a creeper/weirdo. If you see a beautiful girl in passing and attempt to pay her a compliment on her dress or smile, you are a stranger who is attempting to "holler at her." Simply put, you can't meet a girl in public today. When there is no background or common acquaintance shared between you two, it is difficult to begin a conversation when you both look at each other as strangers with intentions.

If I had it my way, it would be natural to meet a girl in a completely normal setting and tell her that she has a beautiful smile. Then I would ask her to join me for some coffee or maybe a slice of pizza, if she would be willing to have my company. That's the way dating should work.

But until that day comes, okcupid is the best means to meet a potentially great girl.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I graduated from a small college in Atlanta in 2010 with a BA in English. I worked a lot of different jobs in education. I helped kids develop reading and writing skills geared towards success on the SAT/ACT. I used to teach high school English briefly. I love working with students, and I am good at what I do. I am very passionate about helping students that were not given the best hand in life. I know a thing or two about it, and now that I am in somewhat a better position to do something to help them access education, I will give them everything I got.

So now I recently accepted a job as the coordinator of multicultural recruitment with a local college in the area. Since I just moved to the area of New England, I was hoping to meet some cool people and hopefully make some good friends along the way. It was be to find somebody who can show me around the area and introduce me to some cool spots. I am quite a fan of learning something new. I love engaging in conversations about other cultures, history, music, literature, theater/opera, sports, etc. I just love meeting people who are open-minded and can enjoy a good exchange of words and ideas and are willing to admit they don't know everything. I can't stand when people think they have a lock on the world.

I have also taken a more invested interest in getting more acclimated to the Puerto Rican side of my heritage. Growing up in the south, I didn't have as much access to that side of my history. But now that I am in Holyoke, MA an area with the most fascinating history and a major cultural hub for the Puerto Rican population in western Mass, i am curious to soak up as much as I can.

Studying history and digging through books in the library fall under my vices :)
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I have a few hobbies I have developed over the years. The most favorite of the bunch would be playing harmonica. I love the blues and enjoy writing music. I also love playing basketball. I have also started getting back into writing lyrics, spoken-word, and comedy. I love hip hop/rap and love to get down to some good beats.

Cooking has also been one of my hobbies. Momma showed me early ;)
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
That I am mixed with some type of hispanic ethnicity. (It's Puerto Rican, by the way.)
People usually notice how I have an old school flow and look. They say I am an old soul trapped in a young body.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My harmonicas.
A basketball.
Record Player.
A good whiskey, bourbon, or scotch.
My father's watch.
Women.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
how Aziz Ansari's description of the current dating scene is spot on (and saddens me): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UM_x7eUSaE

"To be a black man in this country and to be relatively conscious is to be in a rage almost all the time."

-James Baldwin
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Practicing the harmonica, listening to my records while drinking whiskey or scotch in my rocking chair (yes...I have a rocking chair and it is amazing.) I also occasionally go out to the local booze slingers, but it's kinda tough you role on the solo lifestyle. Trying to change that up.

I would love to start seeing some lives shows up around here rap, rock, jazz, blues, folk, classical, anything! I try to mix it up. Keeping it classy but at the same time indulging in my vices from time to time :)

*This is the one big difference between the valley and Atlanta: no clubs. If you know of any cool places to hit up, I'm all ears.

You're looking for something different.
You wanna watch an old Humphrey Bogart film over a home-cooked meal.
You want to grab a slice of pizza and exchange jokes till the point we can't breath from all the laughter.
Jam to some live blues over some beers.

*And I understand there is a cool symphony hall here in Springfield. I would love to check out a concert sometime.
