My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hello and thanks for stopping by.

Summaries draw a picture. I think this captures part of who I am: short brunette with a bouncy personality, big smile, quick wit and an open mind who lives joyfully.

I strive to be a good person, to make each day count. I can be very serious when considering social problems, who to vote for and where to put my energy. I have worked in environmental non profits for decades and continue, against the odds, to do what I can to help people work together to make the world a healthy place.

How do I convey in this limited space, bound by words, a flat bright screen how moved I feel when laying on the soft earth gazing at the light/shadow patterns made by redwood trees? How excited I get when a new bike lane is striped. That my eyes well up whenever I watch family drama on screen. How I love to get lost to find the unexpected.

OKCupid seems to me to be like a giant meet up - a place where lots of people mingle superficially hoping to connect. I want to meet someone who is looking for a serious relationship. Not immediately, of course, but as a premise for cruising this scene. I am an independent person with a lot of love to give. My only child is in college and I am in a phase of my life similar to my 20s only I have lots more confidence and calmness to really enjoy life's gifts.

More about me...
I also enjoy micro brews, partial to IPAs but always interested in trying something new. Love to visit the many amazing tap rooms and brew pubs in the Bay Area. Excited about Magnolia's new place in Dogpatch. Big fan of red wine, and have found a few whites I like. Earlier this year I checked out the Edna Valley south of SLO - very cool vibe. Want to get back to the south Central Coast again soon. Most recently I have become intrigued by rye whiskeys.

I love to cook, and it's fun to create in the kitchen with a willing accomplice. I grow lots of herbs and try to get to the farmers market weekly.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am discovering my self. Being open to new ideas as I meet new people and listen to their stories. Being in my 50s has allowed me a freedom that feels powerful, a freedom to build on my experiences and really live life to its fullest. As Thoreau says “You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment.”
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Having fun. I live joyfully. I am curious and love to experience new things.

I am also very good at hearing what a person is saying to me. I listen deeply and seek to reflect in ways that creates shared understanding. Being a good friend, loyal and honest is really important to me. I bring this ethic to all my relationships -personal and professional. It has been very rewarding for me.

I read a lot and it often leads to too many thoughts rolling around in my brain so that when I start to tell somebody about a really cool article I just read I find I can't quite pin down what is was, when I read it and the details. It's just that I love information and learning and there are so many sources these days. While I appreciate the internet I am still strongly attached to books and newspapers and magazines. There is something about holding paper in your hand, pondering words and images, flipping the pages, and being able to put it down and pick it up randomly that feels comforting to me.

I enjoy movies, especially comedies and science fiction. Summer block busters are eye candy that must be seen on the big screen. I tend to watch indie type films at home.

Music is so important, it's one of our greatest gifts to each other. I enjoy live music and try to get to a lot of concerts over the course of the year. My favorite venues are the Fillmore, the Greek and the Mountain Winery. Over the decades I've enjoyed the Grateful Dead to Peter Gabriel to David Byrne at all these places. This year I want to go to the Kate Wolf festival - outdoors, camping, music, fun!
