My self-summary
You should never put such an open-ended field upon which text is to be entered in front of someone who fancies himself a writer. He will inevitably overthink it, wondering if there's a proper hook he can employ, some nuance he should or should not include, what mix of intelligence, sensitivity and virile bravado he should attempt to project, how to communicate some hologram of his essence that will connect him with the right person, what moment to quit with the linguistic gymnastics and tell a fart joke.

I am creative, affectionate, and off-beat [If you recognize why those three adjectives are there, congratulations! We have both been on this site too damn long.]
What I’m doing with my life
When I kick my own ass hard enough I'm writing and drawing comics and otherwise creating. The rest of the time I'm guarding some of the world's most priceless works of art. No, that's not a joke. The joke is that it's the single job I've held longest and that I loathe it intensely.
I’m really good at
I'm a pretty bang-up writer, which is fortunate since I'm also a compulsive writer, a passing good artist, a decent singer, and when I get the opportunity, a convincing actor.
The first things people usually notice about me
Hopefully my sweet n' sour funny personality & broad sense of style.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Burroughs, Carla Speed McNeil, Neil Gaiman, Herman Hesse, Johnathan Lethem, C.S. Lewis, Terry Pratchett, etc.

(b) Dark City, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Waking Life, Donnie Darko, Pi, Spider-Man 1 & 2 (still haven't subjected myself to 3, but I saw Amazing Spider-Man and liked it a lot), Spirited Away, Dead Poets Society, Akira Kurosawa's Dreams, Metropolis, Defending Your Life, Trois Coleurs: Bleu, Pan's Labyrinth, the Back to the Future trilogy (yes, all 3), Mirrormask, Yellow Submarine, The Manchurian Candidate, The Last Unicorn, The Crow, How To Train Your Dragon, Children of Men, Waltz With Bashir, Pacific Rim, Peur[s] du Noir, What About Bob?, Coraline, Fight Club, The Dark Crystal, Drive, Azur et Asmar, Hedwig & The Angry Inch, The Incredibles, The Forbidden Zone, etc.

(c) Simpsons, Futurama, Kung Faux, Robot Chicken, Metalocalypse, Spongebob Squarepants, Venture Brothers, Daily Show, Ghost Hunters (I have a weakness for all the ghost hunting shows to various [but rapidly diminishing] degrees, w/proportionate beliefs in their legitimacies), Upright Citizens Brigade, Auction Hunters/Storage Wars/American Pickers/Cash & Cari/Auction Kings/all the assorted illegitimate spawn of Antique Roadshow, The Amazing World of Gumball, Wonderfalls, Motorcity, The Soup, Tron: Uprising, Arrested Development, The Walking Dead, New York Noise, Attack of the Show!, Voltron: Defender of the Universe (NOT the new show), Six Feet Under, Invader Zim, Chappelle Show, Battle of the Planets, Max Headroom, Archer, Star Trek: The Original Series & The Next Generation, Adventure Time, Mystery Science Theater 3000, The Muppet Show, Kids In The Hall, X-Files (thru season 5), Mr. Show, The State, Sifl & Olly, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, etc.

What? I didn't say anything.

f) I have no idea why they've yet to add a favorite websites option: BoingBoing, io9, Super Punch, Twitter, Project: Rooftop, Diesel Sweeties, Overcompensating, Shirtoid, Fabbaloo (n.b.: NOT OKCupid)

g) And hell, let's do podcasts for good measure: WTF, Nerdist, Jordan Jesse Go, Walking The Room, My Brother My Brother & Me, The Smartest Man In The World, The Bugle. Also thinking of starting my own podcast & could use a co-host with a sexy voice (that isn't MY sexy voice, that is).
The six things I could never do without
My sketchbook, the sky (you don't realize how important it is until you live in the Midwest for a few years, where it's HUGE), comics, my padded leather motorcycle jacket, the Net and my cat, who had a near brush with death last year, which actually bonded us closer. If we're speaking in abstractions: honesty, affection, intellectual curiosity, non-denominational spirituality tempered by empiricism, hope and comics. (Comics are pretty important.)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
comics, literature (readin' n' writin'), art, philosophy, animation, politics, experience, fringe, music, theater, comedy, humor, sociology, tech, 3D printing, the future (personal & general), the past (mostly personal), sex, etc.
On a typical Friday night I am
If you have anything you can define as "a typical Friday night" in your life, YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG.

(Unfortunately I work 12 hour shifts both Fri & Sat, which diminishes my excursions on said evenings, but I've also been known to do without sleep in the name of a worthwhile experience nevertheless. And I compensate on evenings I do have free.)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
The single phrase I utter most commonly while browsing OKCupid is, "Oh, too bad, she's kinda cute." Make of that what you will.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 25–46
  • Near me
  • For long-term dating, short-term dating, casual sex
You should message me if
...I favorited you! I do that as basically a bookmarking system. That's so I can IM you while you're online: I prefer to get to know someone through a realtime conversation over the anachronism of a protracted missive, though I can compromise in that regard, too. I know ladies on here are bombarded with one-liners, but I can guarantee mine do not begin (or, for that matter, end) with sexual solicitation &/or dick pics. Right, I KNOW: What's WRONG with me??

And yes, by all means, do initiate contact. I can dither how to best break the ice too long, & I prefer aggressive women who aren't waiting for permission through some traditional courtship ritual. Get my attention like the FUTURE WOMAN you are!

I'm seeking an optimist, someone with one foot swimming in the amorphous, primordial soup of possibilities while another is planted firmly on terra firma, if as nothing other than a reference point. Anyone who wants to hang with me should be able to talk fringe philosophy, unquantifiable (by traditional methods) scientific theory and countercultural politics, while also being able to enjoy the simple, stupid things that make you smile for no good reason, like making collages with the Times fashion supplement and Weekly World News (RIP), turning the sound off on the TV and adding in new dialogue and raiding thrift shops in search of whatever weirdness the universe throws in our path. (To that last end I started a blog: http://thriftfu.wordpress.com/) Someone with an infectious itch to explore what it means to be alive. I need to be around more free spirits who are less concerned about what the general public might think about them and more about what feels right, yet I also need to be around people making things happen for themselves. You need not necessarily have all your ducks in a row, but having them all in the same room would be cool. Generally, someone who doesn't take life too seriously, but not because you're uninformed but because you're wise enough to prevent it from ever becoming serious and to keep it in perspective if it should.

I'm a pretty cool cat and I'm up for a good many different types of interactions, but I'm not going to prescribe nor reject any out of hand.
