I am g33ky, creative, and mostly harmless.
My Self-Summary
*I put Allentown as my location because I plan to be moving there
as soon as I find work there. Right now I'm not that far, and I'm
coming down often as my future roommate and I look at
places.*
My name is Chris and I'm a fairly big geek. At times I've played
Russian Roulette with a Nerf gun and a few of my friends. I go to
comic book conventions, I have sci-fi marathons, and I spend a lot
of time on the internet. I have a PC that I built myself, and I
also own two Macs (and old iBook and a G4). I have one tattoo (for
now), and a three legged cat that my family rescued about two years
ago.
In my spare time I try to balance reading, watching anime, renting
or borrowing movies, spending time with my friends, and playing
video games. Sometimes I'll combine as many as I can, though I've
yet to read while doing anything else asides from listening to
music. Oh, and when I pick up my
Guitar Hero controller I tend to
lose track of time.
I attended
NY
Comic Con in 07, 08 and 09. I've met Kyle Baker,
Jeffrey Rowland,
Stan Lee, MC Frontalot, and John Noble, though meeting artists and
celebrities isn't the main reason why I go.
I've also been to BAAF (Big Apple Anime Fest) twice. It seems the
second time I went was the last year they held it, and for good
reason. There's a picture of me cosplaying somewhere on the
internet. It's not here because I misplaced the one I saved when I
built my PC.
I download a lot of fansubs of Japanese shows. Right now it's a
pretty even mix of dramas and tokusatsu. Recommended shows are
Sh15buya(
Shibuya 15), which has a "Battle
Royale meets The Matrix" feel to it,
Golden Bowl, a romantic comedy about
some regulars at a struggling bowling alley, and
Kimi Wa Petto, a show about a
woman who keeps a young man as a pet. Well, there's a lot more to
it than that, but you'll figure that out if you watch it.
What I’m doing with my life
I had gone to school for graphic design, but having one class in
video production made me realize that that's really what I want to
do. I was hesitant on going back to school, fearing a 4 year
commitment, but a friend suggested I look into CSB. At only 8
weeks, I checked it out and ended up signing up for classes, and I
graduated in May '08. I recently moved back to PA after living in
NJ while attending CSB's Cherry Hill campus.
I also write and draw a weekly comic for the internet. While I do
it for fun, I hope that one day it'd be big enough for me to make
books and things for it. Ask me about it if you're interested in
reading it.
Right now I'm playing the retail game while I put a demo together
so I can get started with my career.
I’m really good at
I'm always there for my friends, sometimes even when the people
don't return the favor. If I get enough notice to get the day off
at work, I'm a reliable person to ask for moving help (just ask
AlanaMD). I may not
have a truck or van, but the promise of pizza and beer enable me to
get furniture safely up and down stairs.
The first things people usually notice about me
My hair seems to get a lot of mention. Two people in a week once
said I look like Wayne Static (the singer of Static-X, for those of
you unfamiliar with the name).
Also, that my beard is pretty red. Tons of people ask me if I dye
it, and one person kept asking why I would dye it after telling
them that I didn't. I guess people are only allowed to grow hair in
one color naturally, and that I'm a freak.
Recently I've had a couple people say to me "you're Italian, aren't
you?" Is being Italian "in" or something now?
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
My favorite book is
Killobyte by
Piers Anthony. It's a good blend
of sci-fi and fantasy. Other favorites would have to be Stephen
King's
Dark
Tower series, and Michael Kanaly's
Thoughts of God and
Virus Clans. I caved in
and started reading Harry Potter. I put The Death and Life of
Superman on hold for
Jonathan
Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke. First edition
hardcover for a buck, can't beat that. *Edit: That's on hold for
The War of the Worlds.*
For a while I was reading a lot of manga. I finished Deathnote
(absolutely amazing), and I'm searching for the last volume of
Rahxephon and the second volume of Omukae Desu and E'S.
I don't watch nearly enough movies, or so my friends tell me. I
love comedies, action movies, sci-fi and fantasy. Drama's cool too,
assuming I can get into the story. Some favorites include
Serenity, Wild Zero,
Versus, Balls of Fury, Analyze This, Returner, Super Troopers,
Casshern, Moon
Child, The Transporter, Transporter 2, the original Star Wars
Trilogy,
Unbreakable, Scorpion's Revenge,
Space Travelers (both The Animation and the bank robbery movie
inspired by it), Cast Away,
Army of Darkness, War, Shoot
'Em Up, and
Iron
Man to name a few.
As for television, my current regulars are: Terminator The Sarah
Connor Chronicles, Fringe, the new Knight Rider (though it just
makes me miss the original), and The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network.
When it's on, I try to watch Family Guy, Fururama, and some of the
Adult Swim shows that don't suck ass (Squidbillies and anything Tim
and Eric, I'm looking at you). *Edit: Tim and Eric is starting to
grow on me a little.
I listen to all types of music (except for country). Some of my
favorite bands are:
Tally Hall,
Static-X, The Charming Snakes, Muse,
Apartment 26,
Celldweller, Project 86, Orange and Lemons, Argyle Park, HIM,
Cobra
Starship, Lordi, Ima Robot, The Prodigy, Richard Cheese,
MC Chris,
Stabbing
Westward, Gackt, Ore Ska Band, Matchbox Twenty,
Smashing
Pumpkins, CKY, Duran Duran, Maintenance of Order, Alkaline
Trio, In Flames,
Symphony X,
MC Frontalot, We Are Scientists,
Robots In
Disguise, Bloc Party,
Captain Dan and the
Scurvy Crew, Ultra Lux and Zao. I recently listened to the new
Static-X album, some Dir En Grey, and Paul Anka in the same
day.
I love Japanese food. Every once in a while some friends and I trek
out to Edgewater, NJ to Mitsuwa Markets for some Japanese snacks.
The friends I go with usually go to pick up other things like music
or collectibles, but I do it for the food. I'm also a fan of some
Italian dishes. I've been making it a point to try something new
almost every time I go out somewhere.
The six things I could never do without
The people close to me (friends and family).
I recently picked up a DSi. I probably shouldn't have it charging
next to my bed if I want to get to bed earlier. My pokeymans, let
me show you them. (If you didn't get that one, you haven't been on
the internet enough.)
My cell phone, to keep me in touch with the people important to me
(and also for the games). It also plays music.
My Acura TL, to get me to work and anywhere else I'd rather
be.
My G4, to make webcomics and stuff.
My three legged black cat, Coco. He is totally awesome, though Coco
wasn't my choice of name (mine was Mal).
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How do you let someone know if your hotcakes are selling
well?
Ideas for my comic. How now that I finally have a camcorder I can
make the short videos and movies I've been thinking of. How our
country would be much better off if we didn't stray so much from
our constitution (thanks, Bush!).
On a typical Friday night I am
Usually it's spent either on the internet, watching TV or playing
some games. Sometimes I get a hold of some friends and hang out.
There's nothing really "typical" about my Friday's as it tends to
vary.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Jamiroquai is my guilty pleasure. Though I can't dance to save my
life. Seriously. Me? Dance? Not going to happen. I did take swing
lessons once. I'd have gone again after that, but the lessons were
held on Fridays, and I used to work that night.
You should message me if
If you live relatively close to me and play Whitewolf (or any role
playing game, I'm willing to learn!).
If you understand that not all registered Republicans are
neo-conservatives (I'm registered Republican but am more of a
Constitutionalist). I seriously hate it when people get all like "I
don't get along with conservatives/liberals." Why not? Because
their political stand is different from yours and you can never
have a pleasant conversation about something not involving
politics?
If you and a group of friends need someone to film and edit
something for you, or you'd like to do something with my small
group.
You SHOULDN'T message me if:
-You're a smoker. I like being able to breathe. (If you're trying
to quit and can manage to not smoke around me at all, I may make an
exception)
-You wear Crocs, or, even worse, Uggs. Seriously, I'd be
embarrassed to be walking with someone wearing those things.
-You have less than no interest in comics. I make one myself, so
they're a big deal to me.
