My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'd like someone who has an inquisitive mind, large and eclectic book and music collections, left wing yet populist politics, an internalized yet subtle punkrock/new wave past. Someone who has a unique and suprising style.

I like bike rides and long walks. I like digging through bookstores, recordstores, and jukeboxes. I like going out for a beverage. I like to drink but need to slow down for health reasons. I like new and interesting food. I like to travel with a backpack. I like a sense of adventure.

My friend was asking me about an old flame and asked if she wasn't a dork. My eyes lit up and I said, "Yes, absolutely, I am hot for dorks." I used to be gardenpunk but don't have access to garden space like I used to.

What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Livin in Humboldt Park. Fomenting unrest. Reading. Riding bicycles. Debating a move to Pilsen.

Cabaret singer night at California Clipper!

I've been getting my foody on and cooking with new ingredients a lot lately. I've been making a lot of pie as well.

There's a restaraunt in Joliet that looks like an abandoned takeout window on the outside and a church basement on the inside. It features the seafood of the Nayarit Tribe of Jalisco. It serves a giant medevil stone cauldron of 8 kinds of seafood in a broth that clears your sinuses. It also has the most amazing platters of garlic octupus.

There's also a Polish deli/ donut shop / bar that is the home of two old men both named Stanley whose mission is to have a place for people to go "that is nothing like a factory." The place is their home and they invite you.

Unrepentant ridiculous record nerd. Imagine Adam Ant and Otis Redding get in a fight on Broad Street and burn down the Mummer viewing stands. Can't picture it? I'll make you a cd.

Steinbeck and Galeano and that type of stuff. Food with unusual ingredients.

I've been trying to read all the Pullitzer prizes for fiction. I've also thought about trying to read the whole canon.

I love the Weetzie Bat books by Francesca Block ever since I read them at 15. I've been trying to get every roommate I've ever had to read them.

I've been getting into reading the Robert Caro biographies of powerful people.

When it comes to books, though, my eyes are bigger than my stomach. I often get home from a long day and just want to watch tv and read comic books.

I like good and unusual food. It doesn't have to be expensive. I'm willing to pay more for good food but not if it's expensive for the sake of being expensive. I like the farmers markets and ethnic groceries and Brazilian gaucho barbecue.

And dumplings. I'm on a quest to try the dumplings of every culture.

Oh, and I've started reading comic books again. I'm especially obsessed with Love and Rockets. And Hellblazer which has been going since I was a kid.

In the last few years, I've been watching sci-fi with themes of interrupted intimacy . I'm talking about Pushing Daisies and the newer Doctor Who. I'd love it if somebody could help me get into the classic Doctor Who which I haven't clicked with.

On a typical Friday night I am

driving around for work. Or putting together a bookshelf. Or soaking in the tub listening to the radio. Or drunk-emailing The Ethicist. Or crying my way through a Dr. Who episode. Or being awkward at punk rock karaoke.

I am simultaneously seeking family level stability and off the charts hedonism. "Do I contradict myself? Very well I contradict myself. I am large. I contain multitudes."

Every time I go into the "Vitamin Vault" at six corners Walgreens I get a little freaked out thinking about the last episode of Twin Peaks.

I have a wide sexual palette and would prefer to date someone who is enthusiastic about that rather than put off or merely tolerant.

"One thing you who had secure or happy childhoods should understand about those of us who did not, we who control our feelings, who avoid conflicts at all costs or seem to seek them, who are hypersensitive, self-critical, compulsive, workaholic, and above all survivors, we're not that way from perversity. And we cannot just relax and let it go. We've learned to cope in ways you never had to." -Piers Anthony

I have a Bruce Springsteen lyric tattooed on my chest.

While I fear it would be more fun to drink like a Cubs fan, I must publicly be a supporter of the Sox in keeping with the geographic and class loyalties demanded by newly adopted home. I also shouldn't drink that much anymore. It is no matter how much I enjoy Old Style for both its taste and my nostalgia for the xicano punks from Texas that were obsessed with it when I came here with them in the 90s.
