I should probably mention this first: if you're checking out those pictures and really digging that long hair, then I'm very sorry. I really liked my long hair, but I chopped it off after leaving school and have been enjoying my low-maintenance short hair. I doubt that I will be growing it back out, but I suppose you never know.

I probably come across as very methodical and efficient. Umm, which is because I am. This makes me predictable in several different kinds of situations. I tend to lull you into a false sense of security, and when you're least expecting it do something utterly ridiculous (sometimes to the point of making your eyes bug out). This may happen twice in one day, or be several weeks apart. This is not something I try to do. It is simply part of the joy of being me. I pride myself on my ability to get one of my friends to say, "Never do that again!" without ever doing the same thing twice. Looking for specific stuff about me? I practically wrote a novel here, so read on (Note: I'm actually much closer to shy/quiet than chatty--I just like to write). If you're short on time/patience, skimming is probably the better option.

I'm looking for friends, and not those acquaintance-type-people but really good friends. Not everyone is for me (and vice versa), but if we do become friends then you can count on me to be honest, amusing, and loyal. I'll drop whatever I'm doing for you if you need me. I'll bitch out the people that deserve it when my conflict-avoiding friends are being abused. I know that I can count on and trust all of my good friends, and they know the same of me. And, hey, if something more than friendship should follow, great! =)

I am awesome, amusing, and alliterating

It would seem I've gotten behind on my mail due to my ~2-month hiatus. So, I'm going to catch up on those in the next week or so, as well as overhaul this profile, some of which is aging. My apologies to the wonderful ladies that messaged me soon after the recent breakup, since I wanted a little time alone and wasn't yet ready to socialize. From this I have learned to wait to change my status to 'Single' until I'm done being anti-social! D'oh!

At work, I'm attempting to figure out how to manage 7 underlings (with 3 in training) while still managing to do actual work with half my time. This is proving to be...well...implausible. I shall have to ratchet up the awesometer to 11. Yo, company I work for, stop growing so damn fast! Snap! Yes, well, I shouldn't complain, as it is a good problem to have.

At home I'm concocting more adventures. Snowboarding (Jan '09) went off without a hitch despite my back injury from Nov '07, so I must arrange for more. I'm also thinking this success means it is time to find a good trainer to coach me on some DOs and DON'Ts and start hitting the gym regularly. A year with minimal exercise/activity was no fun.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Video games, problem solving, working with computers (whether they are broken or not), and enjoying bad movies.

I like to think I'm a decent rhythm guitarist and singer. I played some bass for a while, which was fun, but now I'm back to guitar again. :)

I'm a good tutor. This is like teaching, only one-on-one. I tried teaching some in college because I thought I might enjoy it, but I burned out after a couple years. Eventually I realized that the only part I really liked was working with specific people on an individual basis and watching that light bulb click on as they finally began to understand whatever they were struggling with.

I can look at things from perspectives other than my own. Unfortunately, it doesn't always occur to me to do this, so I still act like an insensitive prick every once in a while. Still, if you're upset or confused, talking it over with me can produce not only my thoughts on something, but other perspectives that might help explain things as well.
The first things people usually notice about me

A) Cryptonomicon and Snowcrash (Neal Stephenson), Tons of stuff by Stephen King and Neil Gaiman, Lightning, Dark Rivers of the Heart, Watchers, and Cold Fire (Dean Koontz), This Alien Shore (C. S. Friedman), The Song of Ice and Fire (George R.R. Martin), Ender's Game (Orson Scott Card), and a bunch of other stuff. I also read many online comics: Sluggy Freelance, Penny Arcade, Ctrl-Alt-Del, Looking For Group, Nuklear Power, and Order of the Stick. Recently I read Apathy and Other Small Victories (Paul Neilan), which is definitely the funniest damn book I've ever read.

B) Fifth Element, True Lies, LOTR, Star Wars (IV, V, VI), Princess Bride, Willow, Spaceballs, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones Trilogy, Wayne's World 1/2, Sin City, Napoleon Dynamite, The Incredibles, Galaxy Quest, Mystery Men, Fight Club, The Big Lebowski, The Game, The Usual Suspects, 12 Monkeys, SpiderMan 1/2, X-Men 1/2, Die Hard 1/3, Arlington Road, Real Genius, Zoolander, Blues Brothers, Pulp Fiction, Army of Darkness, Desparado, and many more. I seem to have a thing for movies. On the other hand, I do not watch TV. In fact, you can't even watch TV on my TV, as it is only hooked up to my console games, computer, and DVD player. This is how I like it. I also watch Strong Bad.

C) Mostly Alternative Rock, such as Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nickelback, Cake, NIN, Green Day, Joe Satriani, Bush, Michael Kelsey, Old STP, etc. Haven't seen too many local bands that really do it for me yet, apart from The Culprits. Unfortunately, I think they're now defunct. Lately, I've been listening to Evanescence (The Open Door) and Lit (A Place in the Sun) while at home playing video games, and a lot of Green Day (American Idiot) in the car. Also, some Tsar, assorted Bon Jovi, John-5, and Marilyn Manson at work. I very recently discovered Abney Park, and ordered all 4 of their CDs on a whim, mostly because I like supporting struggling bands. The CDs showed up on 3/20 and now I'm completely infatuated. w00t!

D) I'm a pretty standard meat-and-potatos kinda guy. For cheap places, I love Taco Bell. For sitting down and enjoying a meal, then probably Genghis Grill. I must also admit loving the steak at III Forks, although that isn't a place that I go to often. Go figure. I do also have one dish I cook myself that is awesome.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How awesome snowboarding is. I just learned last year during a company ski trip, and it rules. I have to go again. And again. Unfortunately, I messed up my back pretty badly at the beginning of the winter and haven't been able to do anything sports-y for a few months now. Might be a while before I'm cleared for snowboarding. One day, though. One day.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Well, this used to be about the dancing game I have for my Xbox, but I don't really play it anymore. This apartment has downstairs neighbors, which makes jumping around a bit problematic, and my rowing machine happens to be much more efficient in terms of time. I guess I'll have to ponder something else I can put in here...

You know of a local band I should check out, or if you know any good books on quantum physics, intelligent design, or the physics of consciousness. Or just because. Also, feel free to message me on AIM (miltharenn), if you wish to chat.

And if you aren't put off by how often I use the word 'awesome'. I just read through the profile, and might need to start sticking in some appropriate synonyms. I'm also partial to nifty, spiffy, and, every once in a while, rad.

No gigs scheduled for the band as of now (12/21/08), although we might have finally found a drummer. Once he's back in town (February) we can actually work on booking again. Message me if you'd like to find out more. I do have some video clips on our Myspace if you're curious (
