My self-summary
Isn't the rest on this page enlightning enough ???
What I’m doing with my life
I teach science (chemistry and biology) in higher education. Apart from that, I try to do some research about rusting ships, biofuels, and cleaning up polluted soils in Europe using bamboo. All in all, I try to cultivate my carefully crafted image of crazy scientist :).
I’m really good at
remembering appropriate song lyrics for all day situations
explaining science to young people
annoying young people, see above :P
The first things people usually notice about me
I have mass, and I have a smile. I also usually make sense when my front end opens up.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: popular science, classical history, some scifi to unwind.

Music: quite eclectic, but sure to include the masters of the Universe: Bach, Händel and the Beatles. Also in love with Irish folk, Nederlandstalige kleinkunst, Chanson français, Simon and Garfunkel - anything that sounds like authentic and made on real instruments and with a real voice. Hence - cringing at (most of) the crap that goes for popular on today's radio.
I also make some music myself. I sing in a choir, I play some bonfire style guitar (a few times a year), and I hope to add some banjo too... someday...

Food: I am sure to try everything at least once.

TV: whatever is available on DVD and is healthy SF, for the most part. Comedy also works (the British variety). The more ancient, the better.
The six things I could never do without
imagination
science textbooks
my kindle
my private plant biotech lab (under construction)
Books ! I crave books - in whatever form or shape...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
flower morphology, why ships corrode, how to improve the world in a sustainable way and how to create a reputation of mad scientist.
Also, writing a few of the books I am brooding on.
On a typical Friday night I am
glad the working week is over, because I can start to plan another exciting working week :P

Thursday is more traditional: choir repetition !
