My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Before you go any further, here's something important. I live in NJ but work and attend grad school in NY and am in the city pretty much every day. I listed my zip code as NY because, let's be honest, that's where all the desperate lonely people are. Folks in the suburbs generally have this shit sorted by now. So, if you don't want to deal with someone who doesn't actually live in the city, I get it.

Anyway, on to the fun stuff!

NY born, Jersey raised, escaped to Oregon for four and a half years, wandered back east.

I'm a skilled conversationalist and a teller of tales. I wear a lot of vintage, eat a lot of avocados, swear like a sailor, and kiss like a lover.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I write, and I dream.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Writing, identifying art, teaching your old dog new tricks, Settlers of Catan, cooking.
I'm also fairly skilled at: making atrocious puns, making the perfect cup of coffee, spontaneous dancing, reinventing song lyrics to fit various circumstances, skiing, NYT crossword puzzles, appraising antiques, spinning yarns, and being awkward. I can juggle, do the mashed potato and the twist, and I get headaches when it rains.

For balance, I'm really bad at.... soberly walking in a straight line (I just sort of naturally weave), checking my e-mail, stairs, trains, not over-thinking, using chopsticks, updating software, and taxes.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I ramble on, wear lots of hats (not at once, don't be ridiculous), smell like mulberries, use oxford commas, and due to my seriously fair skin, glow in the dark.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Asking me to pick my favorites of the above categories is like asking a mother to choose which of her kids she likes best. If pressed to answer:

Books - To Kill A Mockingbird, Everything Is Illuminated, The Giver, The Canterbury Tales, Ladies & Gentlemen, The Bible!, As I Lay Dying, The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter, The Pillars of the Earth, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, The Hours, The History of Love, and a great deal of poetry. Plus I maintain avid subscriptions to National Geographic, Smithsonian, and Vogue.

Last Read: How Did You Get This Number
Currently Reading: Re-reading The History of Love
Reading Next: I dunno, you tell me!

Movies - The Royal Tenenbaums (and really anything by Anderson), Some Like It Hot, Harold & Maude, The Graduate, The Truman Show, Pleasantville, Garden State, Holy Motors, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Big Fish, and most of Woody Allen's work.

Next Watching: A Matter of Life and Death (1946)

Music - The Bowerbirds, Bob Dylan, Arcade Fire, Joanna Newsom, Simon & Garfunkel, Elliott Smith, Neutral Milk Hotel, Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Led Zeppelin, Billie Holiday, Alt-J, Nick Drake, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Andrew Bird, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ty Segall & White Fence, Modest Mouse, TV On The Radio, Black Pussy, The Tallest Man on Earth, The Shins, Grizzly Bear, Interpol, The Kinks, Neil Young, Islands, Portugal. The Man, RJD2, Radical Face, Nicole Atkins, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Geographer, Eagles of Death Metal, Devil Makes Three, LCD Soundsystem, The Builders and the Butchers, The White Stripes, Spoon, Gnarls Barkley, Bowie, Cults, Cass McCombs, most jazz, blues, doo-wop, motown, folk, classic rock, funk, classical, and a healthy dose of hip-hop. Stopping now... I could go on forever.

Current Musical Obsession (to be updated whenever I remember/fucking feel like it):

Shows - Boardwalk Empire, Downton Abbey, The Newsroom, Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Always Sunny, Parks & Rec, Futurama, Weeds, Archer, Party Down, Clone High, Daria, Twin Peaks, Colbert, Stewart, Freaks & Geeks, Girls, Workaholics, South Park.

Food - Anything authentic/home cooked. I'm not really into chain restaurants/fast food. I don't eat any animals that live in water full time (i.e. no fish/shellfish, but I have been known to sample alligator sausage). And bring on the hot sauce!
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Okay, fuck this section. Here are some interesting/random facts about me instead:

- I take grammar seriously. Stop intentionally committing crimes against language.
- I frequently dream, and taught myself how to lucid dream.
- Tacos are the closest thing I have to a system of belief.
- I have now encountered five people I went to high school with on this site, and I'm beginning to wonder if the internet is shrinking.
- I don't drive legally.
- I hunt for fossils and sea glass.
- I'm insanely competitive, but I'm not a sore loser. I just like to do things well, and if I don't, I work on them until I do.
- My favorite smells are: cherry pipe tobacco, gasoline, and old books.
- Thunderstorms amaze me to no end.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The way the universe keeps expanding seemingly in conjunction with my bank account's shrinking.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I'm sort of a closeted introvert with an A-type personality..... I'm great at going out and jumping through social hoops, but I don't generally care for bars/clubs/large parties. If there's something happening, I'll make the rounds and be the life of the party, but I find it fairly exhausting and would almost rather be home cooking something interesting/reading/watching a movie/etc. My ideal is socializing in a small group/one on one dynamic where everyone is comfortable with one another..... Going adventuring or just hanging out with a partner or small group of friends appeals to me far more than doing whatever it is people my age normally do.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Until embarrassingly recently I thought "Hotel California" was about a haunted whorehouse. Severely disappointed it isn't.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You appreciate a healthy dose of sarcasm, a good book, and are incredibly passionate.

You want to go exploring, make up hypothetical life stories for people in the park, or, you know, if you made it through this hot-mess of a profile and want to know more.

Just don't send me a "hey" or "hey, what's up" message, or something that exclusively comments on my appearance. This isn't a club, or your cousin's wedding. You can't just walk up to me and start a conversation with one word or the most basic question on Earth. This platform for communication requires, in my opinion, a touch more effort to express interest or curiosity. Plus, I've now inadvertently made this into a test, because if you send me a crap message, you clearly haven't read this ridiculous paragraph. I keep my standards low, but even I have to set a bar somewhere.

One final note: Send me a message if you feel like it, it's really that simple. Even if you live long distance. I love pen-pals.
