I am fun-loving, thoughtful, and engaging.

My Self-Summary

I feel awkward about writing profiles, but don't we all. I'm a transplant here in New York City, a city that I absolutely love. My Midwestern roots require me to make eye contact with people I pass on the street, but so far that hasn't gotten me into too much trouble. I love meeting people and learning about them, trying new things, traveling, eating. I'm earnest with a strong dose of sarcastic.

What I’m doing with my life

I work for a publishing house where I help authors get publicity for their books. Ever heard an author on NPR, saw them on the Daily Show or read an interview somewhere? Chances are someone like me had something to do with that.
Otherwise I'm wandering around on my bicycle, trying barbeque places in the city, and spending time with my friends.

I’m really good at

talking for hours, back massages, laughing, dancing (well, at least I like to think so), asking questions and trying to make people feel comfortable, walking around New York City and exploring, math, reading, listening to Morning Edition, Boggle

The first things people usually notice about me

I've been told my laugh and my smile

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Jonathan Lethem's Motherless Brooklyn, Natsuo Kirino's Out, Francoise Sagan's That Mad Ache, Homer's Iliad, Jack London's White Fang, Tobias Wolff's Old School
Weeds, Dexter, Casablanca,
Luna, Old 97s, Magnetic Fields, Toby Keith, Big and Rich, The New Pornographers, Architecture in Helsinki, Mew, Van Morrison, Top 40
Oysters, champagne--of the Pol Roger or Miller variety, barbeque, steak

The six things I could never do without

A good book
Basil Hayden
My bicycle
My best friends and family
Cell phone
Burritos from the Mexican restaurant next door

I spend a lot of time thinking about

life, literature, and the pursuit of happiness... eek! I'm fascinated by people, their stories, and truth, whether health care reform will get passed or not, my friends and family, etymology, whether the D train is running or not (it always is), should we have gone out last night?

On a typical Friday night I am

Out with friends at a restaurant, a bar or at a party, indulging my most recent obsession--Dexter, perhaps dancing

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I went to band camp the same summer that American Pie came out, and yes, I played the flute. When I transferred to a new high school that fall and someone found out how I'd spent the summer, I was teased mercilessly.

You should message me if

you're a bit of a chameleon--you roll easily with different circumstances
or
you've read a book recently
or
you like to have a good time
or
you're kinda dorky
