My self-summary
I don't really care what kinds of music, books, movies and food you like. OK, that's not exactly true. I do care – especially if you can explain why any of these items make your heart sing. But can any of these things really tell me who you are? I doubt it.

I believe what really matters is how each of us shows up in each moment. The degree to which we can bring out the kindness and wisdom that resides within all of us. And how much fun we can have in the midst of this mad world. (All of which is kind of difficult to express, I realize, in a small little box on the internet...)

I am a lover of warm, genuine, quirky people with big ideas and big hearts. I follow my dreams and my wanderlust, but seek roots as well.

I'd love to find someone who is as comfortable at a nice restaurant in the city as they are in a tent in the wilderness, but I also realize that love appears in unexpected packages and it is the connection that matters much more than any list of hobbies or interests.
What I’m doing with my life
Working as the Director of Research for a really awesome national environmental organization (my dream job!)

Spending time with many dear friends doing any number of goofy things.

Stumbling along the Buddhist path.

Wondering why it took me so long to get into music and trying to make up for lost time.

Hiking, rafting, skiing, kayaking and frolicking in the great outdoors (a lot).

And generally, trying my best to follow this advice from Edward Abbey (which is framed on my desk at work):

“One final paragraph of advice: do not burn yourselves out. Be as I am - a reluctant enthusiast....a part-time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half of yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it’s still here. So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, the lovely, mysterious, and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to the body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much; I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those desk-bound men and women with their hearts in a safe deposit box, and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this; You will outlive the bastards.”

Gotta love Ed.
I’m really good at
Making plans.
Ditching the plan.
The first things people usually notice about me
I wear a lot more purple and polk-a-dots than most normal people.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I realize that I have kind of set myself up here since I said that none of this really matters. Ah, well. Here are a few nonetheless.

Music: Sufjan Stevens. The Decemberists. Mumford & Sons.
Lucero. Iron and Wine. Snow Patrol.

Food: Dark chocolate and salted caramel. Really excellent
pizza. Truffle goat cheese. (Yeah, I can be a food snob)

Books: Bel Canto. State of Wonder. The Places that Scare You. The Tender Bar. Open. Not Always So. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Movies: Searching for Sugarman. Silver Linings Playbook. Groundhog Day. I also have a weakness for the Bourne Identity series.

Shows: Don't have a TV but I've been watching Mad Men and Downton Abbey via Netflix.
The six things I could never do without
Umm... A good genie in a bottle to get me more than six things!

Also:
Good friends.
Hiking boots.
Dharma.
Real conversation.
Music.
A wee bit of snark.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My next interesting adventure.
Why our minds are so bizarre.
What semi colons are really for. (OK, I don't spend that much time thinking about that, but I do wonder.)
And honestly, how all of our lovable and amazing gadgets are changing us and how we interact with our world.
On a typical Friday night I am
Watching live music with friends.
Heading to the mountains.
Sitting in the hot tub in my back yard.
Curled up with you?
