My self-summary Propose an edit
perpetually cynical wanna-be tough-girl, the great tragedy
of my life is that my favorite time of day is that hour
before everyone else wakes, but i never really was a
morning person.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
In addition to my 24-7 committment to the Krebs cycle, I am working
on my PhD, raising an elfin genius who looks just like a six year
old girl, and trying not to become a hermit this winter. I am in a
long term relationship that recently became non-monogamous for a
variety of reasons, mostly geographic. I am an avowed failure at
multitasking, so romantically, I tend to be more comfortable with
monogomy, but have never really felt that it was inherently more
logical than polyamory. So this year will be an interesting
experiment to see how well that fits into my life.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
I have a peice of useless trivia for every situation. I make a mean
apple pie.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
I'm not sure if this is the 1st thing or the 31st thing that people
notice, but I've been told multiple times that I sound like the
girl from the movie Real Genius.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Books: I am a compulsive reader. I read mostly fiction, historical
non-fiction, and poular Science. Some of my favorite books are
Napoleon's Buttons: Seventeen molecules that changed history,
Ammonite and Slow River by Nicola Griffith, Oranges are not the
only Fruits by Jeanette Winterson, Diamond Age, Neverwhere.
Anything by Kage Baker, William Gibson, Nick Bantock, Octavia
Butler, Agatha Christie, Sujata Massey, Jonathan Safran Foer, David
Sedaris, Jared Diamond, Nick Hornsby, Peter Watts. I also like
books about art and architecture, and personal memoirs.
Movies: I like movies that don't telegraph the ending befor the
opening credits roll. Some of my favorites are Dirty Pretty Things,
Amelie, Once Were Warriors, Fifth Element, Fight Club (one of the
few movies i've watched 5+ times and still find things I missed),
Pan's Labyrinth, Sliding Doors, Run Lola Run, Jude, Different for
Girls, Red Desert, Before Sunset, Pretty in Pink(have they released
the version where duckie gets the girl yet?), Fire, Time of the
Gypsies, A Very Long Engagement, My Best Friend's Wedding (cheesy,
I know, but you have to admit, you didn't see that ending coming).
TV shows I appreciate: Torchwood, Dr. Who, Project Runway, Firefly,
Red Dwarf.
Music: My current playlist is Siousxie and the Banshees, Sheila
Chandra, the Time of the Gypsies Soundtrack, Cold Mountain
Soundtrack, lots of musetta, the Yo Yo Ma Appalachian Waltz
collaboration, Jhoti Mishra, a little 80's synthpop, the Dresden
Dolls, and more recent U2. Next month it might be different.
Food: I am a fan of(in no particular order) irish, japanese,
ethiopian, thai, middle eastern, french, chinese, indian. I am no
fan of crustacians, cephalopods, and head cheese.

At home, reading a book or watching a movie. If I'm lucky, I may be
having dinner or playing board games with friends.
You should message me if Propose an edit
If you play a mean game of Puerto Rico. If I kept your sweater and
you want it back. If you found a typo. If you were enraged,
enlightened, or baffled by anything I wrote. If you need someone to
occupy the seat next to you at the David Sedaris performance this
month. If you read the Utne Reader article about the perfect
anti-date, and thought it sounded fun. If I have parked in front of
your car and you need me to move. If talking about human speciation
sounds like your idea of fun.
