I am warm, bright, and probably dancing.
My Self-Summary
Hey there...So, here goes my first attempt at putting myself in a
little box and seeing what happens next. I keep writing and
unwriting self-summaries and making this screwed up little face
that makes my nose look a lot like a rabbit's. I'll have you know,
it's not one of my cuter faces. Yeah. So...
Like my profile, I am a work in progress. I'm convinced there's
always room to grow and learn, and I'm equally weary of
"enlightenment" as i am of "know-it-all's". I try not to let myself
get too comfortable because with comfort comes laziness, and I like
the challenge of new ways of seeing the world and the exponential
growth that can stem from it. Travel has been a good teacher to
that regard. Interesting people and their various insightful ways,
too. This time last year I was living in Rio. This time next year I
could be living anywhere, and I wouldn't have it any other
way.
On the flip side this bird has a nesty side, and wherever I am,
home is one of the keys to my happiness. Aesthetics and beauty are
important to me, as are good food and company. I like to grow my
own and do it myself and change everything around and have my
little creature comforts when it comes to home. I like to cook for
a spontaneous house dinner and be a social butterfly, but I also
enjoy plenty of quiet time in my room to read and write and
contemplate the world beyond the oak tree outside my window, down
the street, on another continent, on another plane somewhere...
What I’m doing with my life
Teaching English to college-aged international students. Such great
people.
Practicing yoga. Riding my bike around. Sometimes bicycle yoga if I
feel like it.
Daydreaming about my next trip overseas. Daydreaming in
general.
Growing my own food.
Growing up, but not settling for becoming a stodgy
30-something.
Becoming more open to the possibility of meeting someone to share
my "what I'm doing with my life" with.
I’m really good at
Getting lost.
Making the most of it.
Making new friends.
Making them do silly things with me.
Laughing at them.
Laughing at myself.
The first things people usually notice about me
Since I can be pretty oblivious to what others first notice about
me,
A testimonial from my (awesome) housemate:
"She is such a babe." This is a phrase I often hear repeated
around
town. But if you think she is just a babe, think again. She is a
goddess. Close friends who recognized this made her the goddess
mother of their child. Other of her friends are routinely on the
scope out for the blessed individual who may be so fortunate to
pair with this child of light.
You see, her hair is like that of an angel's. Her style is
funky
and refined. Her manner is constant. She honors the flare and color
of
life brought out by travel and exploring life's wonders by
foot,
wheel, or flying through the cosmos. Her sense of humor is always
on
point, and it is often that my housemates and I find ourselves
being
amused by her as she is stoveside conjuring up her famous quiche,
or
some other deliciousness.
Are you the right match for her, I wonder? Are you mature and
ready
for something real? Can you listen just as well as you speak? Can
you
share the responsibilities, surprises, and dreams life has to
offer?
Will you remain young and vibrant at heart into your older years?
Are
you ready to be an empire of strength and meet the well of
softness?
Well, then fasten your seat belt because it's your lucky day.
*Aw, shucks. I'm blushing...
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I've avoided this category for a while because it runs the risk of
being too listy and long-winded. A few of each, for starters.
Okri, Winterson, Steinbeck
Amelie, Triplets of Belleville, City of God
Nina Simone, Caetano Veloso, Jolie Holland, Kinky
Local, Organic
The six things I could never do without
open space, oak trees, imagination, music!, a good book, ripe
avocados.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Food... where it comes from... what's in it... why it travels more
than i do.
My next trip.
Making out.
How to say things in different languages.
How to say things in English.
By this point, probably food again.
How to live life more completely.
Love.
How anyone could be so cruel as to vote Yes on 8 (against other
people loving each other) .
Getting a dog. Naming it either Judge or Muffin or possibly
hyphenating the two. Ok, I'm just being a dork now. It happens
sometimes.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out and drinking wine with friends.
Going out to see live music somewhere.
Cooking dinner and laughing with my housemates.
Driving to SF to play with my sister.
In pursuit of dancing.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I've inhaled.
You should message me if
You're single. (Yep, I don't talk to other women's husbands)
You're fun to be around.
You like to laugh.
You'd like to make me laugh.
You look a lot like you do in your photos.
You aren't still madly in love with your ex.
You don't want to live on an island with a population of 2.
You know your way around the kitchen and enjoy giving as much as
receiving when it comes to culinary delights.
You have a job and/or purpose in the world.
You like to have a good time but don't need to be the last man
standing.
You call your mother sometimes.
You have an active lifestyle.
You have good hands.
You have a good heart.
You have an interest in meeting new, interesting people.
You'd like to see if I could be one of them.
