My self-summary
I'm a bit of a planful wanderer. I thrive on organization in my career but love spontaneous star-gazing trips to catch meteor showers in the middle of the night and random road trips for reveling in Americana. I love reading and discussing ideas on everything from pop culture to political science. I am not satisfied unless there is an upcoming trip on my agenda - whether it's hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, a weekend in Minneapolis, or a sojourn to 6th street in Austin. I'm looking for new friends and perhaps even a co-conspirator - someone with an appreciation for sarcasm, dive bars, bookstores, and science.
What I’m doing with my life
Molding young minds, research, training my dog, filling my passport with stamps, stargazing, appreciating nature, sweet statistical analyses, becoming a better cook, feeling grateful for the simultaneous absurdity and beauty of life, and always always always asking questions and learning. Yes, I multi-task and I'm damn good at it.
I’m really good at
Cleaning and organizing. Picking just the right song for just the right moment. Pop-culture trivia. Historical randomness. Robot dancing. Multi-tasking, obviously. Laughing with friends.
The first things people usually notice about me
My laugh. My sarcastic sense of humor. My fabulous eyewear.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books, music, movies - these things matter. Call me shallow, it's the f**king truth.

Books: Literary heroes include Chuck Palahniuk, Tom Robbins, Kurt Vonnegut, Leon Uris, and Judy Blume. Classics I love include Fitzgerald, Dickens, Austen, Elliot, and Wilde.

Music: Too many to list. All time faves include: Radiohead, Stars, Tori Amos, Arcade Fire, M83, NIN, Amanda Palmer/Dresden Dolls, Sufjan Stevens, !!!, Bon Iver, Florence + the Machine, Mates of State, The National, Tool, Bloc Party, Magnetic Fields, Belle & Sebastian, Yeasayer, Of Montreal, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, Beck, The New Pornographers & Neko Case, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bjork, Peter, Bjorn, & John. Sometimes I like to pine, sometimes I like to scream, and sometimes I like to dance. I really love those artists that can make you want to do all of these things.

Also, I'm not religious but if there is a God and he is male, his name is Bruce Springsteen.
Movies: Classics that I own and have seen a million times include - Fight Club, The Big Lebowski, Almost Famous, The Prestige, Ghostbusters, Back To the Future, Juno, High Fidelity, Goodfellas. Pretty much anything made by Burton, Nolan, Fincher, the Cohen Bros, Anderson, Scorcese, and Allen has probably been encoded into my long-term memory from repeated viewing.

Shows: I'll admit it's hard for me to get into regular shows. That said, Breaking Bad is probably my all-time favorite program, along with Six Feet Under. Close seconds are Orange is the New Black and House of Cards. I miss Arrested Development.

Food: Seafood, Italian, Indian - new things I haven't tried yet. Mexican is good.
The six things I could never do without
something that plays music nearby me
walking/running shoes
my family and friends
my dog, Charlie
raspberries - they are the perfect berry.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
my next mix CD, places to take my dog on walks, my research, the complexities of human behavior and how to help people change what they want while still staying true to their identity, my next roadtrip
On a typical Friday night I am
maybe at happy hour or dinner with friends, sitting outside and enjoying the twilight
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
The Pure Michigan commercials make me cry a bit. I don't know if it's the music or Tim Allen or the fact that I lived in Michigan and loved it there, but Pure Michigan is really a magical place.
