My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Let's see...how can I distinguish myself from the endless sea of women who all claim to be charming, warm, extremely into cuddling, very together and mildly brilliant? I probably can't accomplish all of that in an online profile, but in real life I think I stand a good chance. (And, oh yes, did I mention I'm humble? I really am humble. Really.) The truth is I am warm, smart, upbeat and optimistic -- not a perfect woman, but happy, confident and enjoying my life. I know this is a cliche, but I'm definitely a "people person." I have great colleagues, many wonderful friends and I tend to connect easily with others (humans and canines). Now I am looking for someone special to really click with (more cliches, but true).

I tend to see the positive things in life and to appreciate the small things. My glass is usually half full but I am not a pushover. I love to read (usually literary fiction), can get completely caught up in a baseball game (go Giants!), will whip up a delicious meal with ease (though the kitchen may be a mess afterwards) and I love to be outside -- hiking, walking and exploring -- in cities as well as in nature. I am quite active and enjoy many types of exercise -- yoga, biking, hiking, swimming in the bay (my new, favorite activity!) and going to the gym, but I leave the heart monitor at home and enjoy exercise and outdoor activities without going into an obsessive uber-zone. I love the ocean and the mountains and believe that a sunset on Tuolumne Meadows may be the most extraordinary place on earth. (On the other hand, I love Manhattan too!)

I am a teacher and I love my job. (Although hanging out with 10-year-olds all day can be exhausting, it is also interesting, rewarding, a lot of fun and it definitely keeps me young.) I'm politically liberal -- always have been, always will be. I have two grown children -- one in college, one who has graduated college -- and I am very, very close to both of them. I also have a dog that I love.

I am down to earth, independent, and pretty easy going. My friends and colleagues consider me very intelligent, open-minded, a good problem solver analytical and insightful. I'm also fun, have a quick wit and am quite funny (even though this profile seems to contradict that claim). I am not into relationship drama. I was married for a long time and now want to meet a guy who is engaged in the world, communicative, thoughtful, emotionally available, VERY sensual (gotta' have chemistry!), can make me laugh (which isn't hard) and enjoys life. Is that you?
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Enjoying it, expanding it, appreciating it, anticipating what's next...
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
expressing myself and listening -- really listening -- to others. I am a good problem solver. I'm good with kids and dogs and I am a good friend, sister, daughter and a great mom. I'm a loving, fun, caring and very affectionate girlfriend. I am a great kisser. I can write well and I'm a pretty good cook. I'm a teacher, and I enjoy my job. I sound a little like Mary Poppins here (except for the kissing), but I'm also pretty good at having a really fun time!

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I love indie movies as well as dumb comedies. I also like foreign films and the occasional blockbuster. In the past I enjoyed Memento, Fargo, 50/50, Moneyball, Beginners..to name a few. Galaxy Quest and School of Rock always make me laugh. TV is not a big part of my life but I think Louie C.K. is brilliant and Jon Stewart is almost always on target.

I read a lot (well, I go through phases of reading a lot). I tend more towards literary fiction, but also enjoy memoirs and have recently been reading more non-fiction. Some favorite books include The Hours, Olive Kittredge, The Brief, Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, most Alice Munro stories and many essays by Adam Gopnik and Malcolm Gladwell. I always read (and never finish) The New Yorker.

My musical tastes are eclectic -- rock, bluegrass, jazz, anything Latin, some classical and even a little rap. Michael Franti is a favorite and so is Bruce. I'll never tire of the Beatles and I love Ozomatli, Manu Chao and Orishas -- even though I can barely understand the Spanish lyrics. The arts are also important to me. I enjoy many different art forms (including music, literature, film, theatre, photography and painting) and while I appreciate innovation and experimentation, I have low tolerance for pretension.

As for food, I enjoy a great meal and also love the offerings from the local taco truck. Ethnic food is at the top of my list -- Indian, Burmese, Thai, Sushi...but I am a very adventurous eater, so most foods appeal. I need my veggies and I love summer fruits. There is always some dark chocolate in my pantry.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
*my family (including my kids, dad, siblings, dog)
*my friends (I have a terrific "posse")
*kissing (I mean good kissing)
*walking/hiking outside (that's one reason I love the Bay Area)
*a good book and/or The New Yorker
*my ability to have a good laugh
*my headlamp (it's always the first thing I put in my suitcase no matter where I am headed)
*NPR (I listen to the news and love This American Life and The Moth -- I'm an NPR junkie)
*olive oil (OK, that's #9...I'll stop at 9)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
...how I can make popcorn on the stove (see "olive oil" above) without burning it. Lately I've also been thinking about how I can get to Haiti to help out with a clothing and shoe distribution program. I think about my kids all of the time. I think about how I can make learning about fractions fun and interesting. I also wonder what my next swim in the SF bay will be like. In truth, I spend a lot of time thinking about lots of things both small (like popcorn) and large (like poverty in Haiti). If we get to know each other, you'll find that out.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I am usually hanging out with a few friends, often at my house. I own a warm and comfy home, the kind of place where friends like to gather. After a long work week, it is nice to relax and if I don't feel like socializing after work, I may go to yoga or for a swim (and then meet up with friends). If it's baseball season, I might be listening to or watching the Giants (or at least checking the score). But there really is no "typical" Friday night and I'm open to new things -- what do you like to do on Friday night?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Are you kidding?! Admit it here? Not gonna' give it up that easily guys.
