Music: A primary love. I love going to shows and dig everything
except country. Fugazi changed my life back in college. For a
smattering of my favorites, recent shows include Godspeed You!
Black Emperor, Best Coast, Speedy Ortiz, Japandroids, Matthew Dear,
Joey Bada$$, Big Boi, Battles, The Men, Boys Noize, Steve Aoki. JT
is my celebrity role model. Music goes with everything. It's like
I have to throw NPR in here also. It's where I get all of my news
and I absolutely love Radiolab and This American Life. The All
Songs Considered podcast is also one of my favorite places to find
Movies: 8 1/2, Lebowski, Pulp Fiction. Wes Anderson, David
Cronenberg, David Lynch, Terry Gilliam, Jim Jarmusch. Among many,
Food: San Francisco is all about food, which works for me! I'm a
strong believer that there's a good version of everything.
Books: I really go for the classics like "The Very Hungry
Caterpillar" and "Harold and the Purple Crayon." Honestly, the
Giving Tree can still get to me and I felt like "Where the Wild
Things Are" is a bit of an autobiography. I love immersing myself
in books, both fiction and nonfiction. Vonnegut, Burroughs,
Palahniuk, A People's History, The God Delusion, Kavalier and Clay,
Daniel Pink, Dan Savage. I recently read We The Animals by Justin
Torres. Let the prose wash over you. It will blow your mind. Oscar
Wao by Junot Diaz was also very good.
TV: Good shows these days can compete with any movie as far as I'm
concerned. House of Cards. Arrested Development. Curb. Louie.
Sopranos. The Wire. Girls. Game of Thrones. Breaking Bad. Boardwalk
Empire. Twin Peaks.
