If there's passion or creativity involved, I'm in. I am all over
the place sometimes, but I've gotten used to it. Grew up with
computers, but couldn't survive without my trusty composition
notebooks. I have a crazy system for writing in them, and the idea
of switching to some program scares me. Recently switched to
recycled paper notebooks of the same size because of middle class
white guilt. Or the environment. I get those things confused
sometimes. Have beliefs but I don't want to spend too much time
crusading for or against things. Take that as you will. Born in New
Haven, but grew up in Athens. My family lives there, and I try and
visit during the summer. I miss Greece when I'm here. If I ever
moved back I think I would really miss New England beaches in the
fall.
Windows down instead of AC.
Background in math/computer science, studying cognitive science,
with assorted minors in super useful things like linguistics and
philosophy. I do stuff with linguistics and neural networks. I'm
applying to PhD programs in cognitive neuroscience and philosophy,
and I want to study consciousness. If Earth is ever overtaken by
zombie-robots...oops, my bad. I especially like studying what kind
of mental representations we use, and what insights they offer into
how our minds work. I will end up in academia, and I cannot wait.
You know, until I get fired for browsing 4chan from my office.
Creating things. Connecting ideas. Pattern recognition. Music.
Connecting with people. Taking forever to do almost everything.
Running late (see above). Laying on the grass, talking about
philosophy and looking at the clouds. Picking things up with my
toes. Blowing spit bubbles. Give me an instrument, I'll give you
music. Daydreaming and getting distracted. Annoying the shit out of
prescriptive grammarians, nah'mean? Doing things that will later
cause me to facepalm.
Depends. I'm probably being loud without realizing it, if I'm with
people that are in my circle of trust. To the uninitiated, this may
seem like me being an asshole. On occasion I'm probably being an
asshole. Oops :(
I hate that guy who listened to every band before they were
popular.
Don't be that guy.
Seriously.
So yeah, music: Maybe not everything, but definitely a lot. I have
yet to really appreciate or like country, and can't seem to listen
to it for very long. I grew up with classical and jazz. My first
real loves were grunge and heavy metal, in high school. Hip-hop,
melodic death metal, post-hardcore, breaks, girly bands, pop,
classical, jazz, neo-soul, DnB, motown, rock, metal, trance,
hardcore, punk, ska. Whatever. I have accepted the fact that I
discover more music than I have time to listen to, so I squeeze in
as much as I can, and just make the best of it. Turn me on to
something that I find to be awesome, and I might love you
forever.
Deftones will
always have a special place in my heart. I love how their music is
a swirl of imagery and emotion.
Books: Thomas Pynchon is probably my favorite contemporary author,
along with Don DeLillo, Philip Roth, and Cormac McCarthy. I like
pretty much all of the classics, especially Tolstoy and Dickens.
Dystopians. Tintin. Eloise.
Neal Stephenson; Snow Crash is probably one of my favorite books of
all time. William Gibson; Pattern Recognition is another of my
favorites. J. R. R. Martin. Jane Yolen; *loved* her books when I
was like 5-6, and I still reread them every once in a while. Harry
Potter.
Movies: Horror. Foreign films. They don't have to be artsy.
Sometimes it's just awesome seeing a familiar theme from another
culture's point of view. I love being wrapped within a director's
vision.
Favorites include: Requiem for a Dream, Rounders, Seven, Heat,
Wedding Crashers, Lost in Time (Korean), Things We Lost in the
Fire, Life as a House, The Ring, The Departed, Animal House,
Spirited Away, Caddyshack, Back to School, The Human Stain, Akira,
Ghost in the Shell. Aaaaaaaaaaaand now I'm just listing movies,
wtf. I like movies. They're cool, you watch them. I don't
know.
I like food. Pretty simple, right? Lol. I will always try something
new. New Haven pizza will always have a special place in my heart,
especially
Sally's. Hopefully I haven't burned
any bridges with all you passionate
Pepe's fans ;)
I used to have time for video games, but sadly, not so much
anymore. I try and fire up some cs when I can. I did the WoW thing,
but don't have time for that shit anymore. <3 console RPGs.
Creative outlets, swearing, inspiration, goofing off, music, and
4chan.
Too much stupid shit. Usually when I should be doing something
else. Such as taking a faster shower so my carpool peeps don't slit
my throat for being late again. But the water feels so
gooooooooooood, and the mind wanders. Sigh.
Direct vs indirect realism. Idealism. Structures. Direct
perception. Speech act theory. Meaning vs denoting. Sex/love/life.
Why the record label I will never get around to starting will be
the coolest thing. Ever. Um, other things too probably.
Art and fashion. Not from a completely deconstructionalist
perspective. I love how they work. What is artistic talent/ability?
How does it emerge from mental concepts?
Calculating infinity. Obviously.
Or maybe working a second job so I can afford enough black market
Adderall to finish entering information into this site.
Hm. I am pretty honest about myself to relative strangers,
sometimes at the expense of normative social boundaries.
*shrug*
I'm Batman.
Your awesome. LoL.
